April is the Month of the Military Child

In April, we celebrate the Month of Military Child and recognize military children for their strength and resiliency.

About the Month of the Military Child

Military children face unique challenges throughout deployments, absences, relocations, and frequent change. They are often compared to the dandelion.

Much like the dandelion, military children can put down roots almost anywhere. They adapt easily and can thrive nearly anywhere. They bloom everywhere the wind carries them, and they stand ready to fly into the breezes to take them into new adventures, new lands, and new friends. Military children are resilient.

Monday, April 27, 2026, is Teal Up Day!

This is a national movement in which people are encouraged to wear teal as a visual show of support and to raise awareness that April is the Month of the Military Child.

Teal was chosen to represent Canadian Military Children because it incorporates all branches of the Military: Blue for Air Force, Green for Army, and Blue/White for Navy.

The Calgary Tower, Red Deer City Hall, and Lethbridge City Hall will all be illuminated teal after dusk on Monday, April 27. To show your solidarity, take a picture with these local landmarks and share them on social media with the hashtag #TealUp!
