Basic Military Swim Standard Test

The BMSS Test includes the following components:

  1. Water Safety Knowledge  
  2. Abandon Ship Drill 
  3. Basic Swimming Skills 

The test offers to CAF members and their Chain of Command (CoC) an opportunity to assess their comfort around water and, whether or not members possess elementary swimming skills and related water safety knowledge to effectively respond to emergency situations that may arise when working in, on, under or around water. The BMSS is not an annual evaluation.
