We understand the important life benefits that participation in sports and physical activity can have on a child’s life and we want to help.

PSP has partnered with Canadian Tire Jumpstart to provide financial assistance to families with children aged 4 to 18 in accessing recreation programs and equipment.

About Jumpstart

Formed in 2005, Jumpstart is a registered charity that helps children from financially disadvantaged families participate in organized sports and physical activity. Jumpstart gives funding to help with registration fees, equipment and transportation.

What could cause a request to be declined?

Jumpstart uses the Low-Income Cut-Off (LICO) established by the Government of Canada to assess funding applications. For Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members or other extenuating circumstances, we evaluate the specific reason for the situation; in this instance, being a CAF member qualifies as such a reason.

Applications with legitimate extenuating circumstances—such as being a CAF member—are subsequently reviewed against an income requirement.  While we do not apply the same LICO rules against CAF applications we still need to ensure that income is within reason of LICO.  For example, if a family of four has an income exceeding $75,000 and the LICO for that family size is $55,000, this is a significant difference that may lead to an application being declined.
