CAF Physical Fitness Awards of Aerobic Excellence

Qualify for the Canadian Armed Forces Physical Fitness Awards of Aerobic Excellence program. Work through seven distinct levels (I to VII) and six sub-levels (red to gold seals) by accumulating points through your PSP fitness training in a combination of aerobic activities.  
  • How to qualify for the CAF Physical Fitness Awards of Aerobic Excellence
    The CAF Physical Fitness Awards of Aerobic Excellence program is divided into seven levels of achievement (I to VII) and six sub-levels (red to gold seals). To obtain a seal certificate and move to the next seal, participants must complete 2000 units of aerobic exercise. To obtain a level, members must complete 12,000 units of aerobic exercise (six seals). Completion of all seven levels signifies the accumulation of 84,000 aerobic units. 
  • How to accumulate points

    To qualify for the Canadian Forces Physical Fitness Award for Aerobic Excellence, a CAF member must accumulate a minimum of 2000 units of aerobic activity in less than two years.  

    1. Get your logbook. Report to your local PSP Fitness and Sports personnel, or an officer delegated by the Commanding Officer. 

    1. Obtain a minimum of one unit per exercise session to log the activity.  

    1. Accumulate 2,000 units in less than two years by combining any of the eligible aerobic activities listed. 

    1. Once you’ve logged 2,000 eligible units, you’ll receive a seal. 

    Note: Distance is a primary consideration in earning qualifying units. Where the distance cannot be measured because of the equipment limitations, or circumstances, times may be used in lieu of distance.

  • How are levels broken down?

    Each level is broken down into six seals.

    Red seal: first 2000 units accumulated 
    White seal: second 2000 units accumulated 
    Blue seal: the third 2000 units accumulated 
    Bronze seal: fourth 2000 units accumulated 
    Silver seal: fifth 2000 units accumulated  
    Gold seal: sixth 2000 units accumulated 

    Once you’ve completed a scroll of six seals, you will earn your primary level, and can start working toward the next one.  

  • Acquire seven levels

    For members who require a higher and continuing challenge, six additional levels can be achieved. Completion of all seven levels will signify the accumulation of 84,000 aerobic units. The award for each of levels II to VII are as follows: 

    Level II: red decal plus red to gold seals 
    Level III: white decal plus red to gold seals 
    Level IV: blue decal plus red to gold seals 
    Level V: bronze decal plus red to gold seals 
    Level VI: silver decal plus red to gold seals 
    Level VII: gold decal plus red to gold seals.
