About Calgary MFRC

Deployment Support 

The Calgary MFRC supports Canadian Armed Forces members and their families throughout every stage of deployment, from preparing for an upcoming absence and navigating time apart to reunion and reintegration.

A deployment is defined as any CAF-related absence lasting 28 consecutive days or more. This can include international operations, as well as courses, training, taskings, avalanche control, wildfire response, and other service-related duties within Alberta or a neighbouring province.

During these absences, military spouses and partners often take on additional responsibilities while managing changes to routines, parenting, household demands, and family life. They may also experience increased stress or feelings of isolation. Our programs and services are here to help families stay informed, connected, and supported throughout the entire deployment experience.

Services Include:

• Subsidized Pet Care Program
• Individual navigational support
• Referrals to counselling, support groups, and additional resources
• Keep in Touch calls
• Overseas parcel shipping
• Respite and emergency childcare

Family Support

The Calgary MFRC provides family support services that strengthen the well-being and resilience of military families while helping them navigate the unique challenges of military life.

Frequent relocations can make it difficult for families to establish roots and build strong support networks. Through welcoming programs, community connections, and helpful resources, we connect military families with one another and with their local community, helping them feel supported and develop a meaningful sense of belonging wherever they live.

• Helping Hands Youth Volunteer Group
• Emergency Support Services

Mental Health & Wellness Support 

Our Family Liaison Officer (FLO) is a Social Service Worker who provides compassionate, confidential support to families of ill or injured Canadian Armed Forces members and families of the fallen. The FLO helps families navigate available programs, services, and community resources while ensuring they receive support tailored to their unique needs.

FLO Services Include:

• Confidential counselling
• Referrals to mental health services
• Access to education and prevention-based programs in the community
• Short-term individual or group support for families of ill, injured or deceased members
• Tailored assistance to families of the fallen

Veteran Family Program 

The Veteran Family Program supports medically releasing Canadian Armed Forces members, medically released Veterans, and their families as they prepare for and adjust to life after service. The program provides guidance, resources, and connections to help families navigate the unique challenges of the transition from military to civilian life.

Funded by Veterans Affairs Canada, the Veteran Family Program is delivered through Military Family Resource Centres across Canada.

Services Include:

• Operational Stress Injury Resource for Caregivers
• Veteran Family Journal
• Mental Health First Aid - Veteran Community
• Support with developing a family care plan
• Information and referral

Canadian Armed Forces members, veterans, and their families experience unique challenges that set military life apart, including frequent relocations, extended separations, deployments, and the risks associated with service. The Calgary Military Family Resource Centre helps lessen the impact of these challenges by providing meaningful programs, trusted resources, and compassionate support.

All funds raised directly support military and veteran families within our Southern Alberta service area, extending north to Red Deer and south to Lethbridge.

Tax receipts will be issued for donations over $10.00.

Volunteer

Volunteering with the Calgary MFRC is a meaningful way to meet new people, build valuable skills, gain experience, and share your talents while supporting military and Veteran families in your community.

We provide volunteers with orientation, hands-on training, and workshops that support effective communication, personal growth, and the skills needed to work confidently with diverse groups.
