About Calgary MFRC
We proudly serve military and veteran families in the Calgary, Red Deer, and Lethbridge areas.
We support families of Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members within our service area of Southern Alberta, including Red Deer and Lethbridge. Our programs and services include prevention, support and intervention services, social activities and events (Stampede Breakfast, Christmas party), personal development workshops, family separation and reunification support, counselling, crisis intervention, child and youth programs, discounted admission passes, and more.
The MFRC is a charitable organization run by a volunteer Board of Directors.

Community Engagement
Connecting military families to one another and to their community is important for providing social support, sharing information and resources, fostering a sense of belonging, and promoting community integration.
These connections can help military families navigate the challenges of military life more effectively and improve their overall well-being.
We offer affordable opportunities for CAF families to get out into our community, try new experiences, strengthen the family bond and develop an awareness of the Calgary MFRC and its services.
Services Include:
- Special events
- Recreational activities
- Tutoring subsidies
- Discounted attractions and tickets
- Community outreach
- Resource sharing
Deployment Support
We provide support services to CAF families throughout all stages of deployment, including pre-deployment, deployment, reunion, and reintegration.
Deployment, defined as any period when a CAF member is away for 28 days or more, is not only international operations but also can include being away for avalanche control or forest fire management, etc. in our, or a neighbouring, province.
Military spouses often take on increased responsibilities during deployments and may experience feelings of isolation or stress. These supports aim to help spouses navigate these challenges.
Services Include:
- Individual navigational support
- Referrals to counselling, support groups, and additional resources
- Keep in Touch calls
- Overseas parcel shipping
- Respite and emergency childcare
Family Support
We focus on providing family support services to military families to enhance their well-being and resilience and help them navigate the unique challenges they face.
Military families often move frequently, which can make it challenging to build a support network. Family support services can help families connect with other military families and with local community resources, providing a sense of belonging.
Services Include:
- Summer day camps
- Childcare subsidies
- Tutoring subsidies
- Strengthening Families Events
- Dolly Parton Imagination Library
- Helping Hands Youth Volunteer Group
- Emergency Support Services
Mental Health & Wellness Support
Our Family Liaison Office (FLO) is a Canadian Certified Counsellor who helps ensure the widest variety of support is offered to families of ill or injured CAF personnel, and families of the fallen.
FLO Services Include:
- Confidential counselling
- Referrals to mental health services
- Access to education and prevention-based programs in the community
- Short-term individual or group support for families of ill, injured or deceased members
- Tailored assistance to families of the fallen
Veteran Family Program
The Veteran Family Program supports the unique transitioning needs of medically releasing CAF members, medically released Veterans and their families. Funded by Veterans Affairs Canada the program is delivered through Military Family Resource Centres across Canada.
Services Include:
- Operational Stress Injury Resource for Caregivers
- Veteran Family Journal
- Mental Health First Aid - Veteran Community
- Support with developing a family care plan
- Information and referral

Our Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) soldiers, veterans and their family members face unique challenges that make being in the military an occupation different from any other. At the Calgary Military Family Resource Centre we aim to help lessen the impact of these unique challenges, which include frequent separations, extended deployments and high risk situations.
All funds raised go directly to our local military community. We support families of CAF members and veterans within our service area of Southern Alberta, including north to Red Deer and south to Lethbridge.
Tax receipts will be issued for donations over $10.00.

Becoming a volunteer can be rewarding and provide you with the opportunity to meet people, develop new skills, and share your amazing talents with others! You will gain valuable work experience while generously contributing to the quality of family life in your community.
The Calgary MFRC provides volunteers with orientation, on-the-job-training and workshops that help promote positive communications, personal and interpersonal development, and opportunities to develop skills that facilitate working in diverse groups.
You may be surprised at the variety of volunteer opportunities offered: from workshop facilitation to translation services to participation on special event committees. If you are willing to share some of your time and talent - please send us an email!
