Accreditation

The Petawawa Military Family Resource Centre is proud to be Accredited With Commendation by Accreditation Canada. Accreditation is an ongoing process of assessing organizations against national standards of excellence to identify what is being done well, and what can be improved.

Critical to the PMFRC’s success in maintaining our Qmentum status is an ongoing commitment to:

  • be engaged and involved in the activities of the organization,
  • maintain a focus on practises and procedures pertaining to the quality of our programs and services,
  • prioritize employee and client safety, and
  • support a culture of family-centred care.

The PMFRC Board of Directors is accountable for the organization’s performance, quality improvement and risk management.

The benefits of Accreditation for clients and employees

Since beginning the process in 2015, the PMFRC has implemented a number of changes in order to meet the high standards related to safety and client-centered care set out by Accreditation Canada.  But, what does this designation mean to you - our employees and clients?

Safety

The safety of our clients and employees are a top priority for the PMFRC.

As the organization moved through the accreditation, we formalized many of our existing health and safety processes.  This included measures such as:

  • Additional signage in all our buildings,
  • Surveys to hear from employees about their health and safety concerns,
  • Updated health and safety manuals at all locations,
  • Response plans for emergencies, disasters, or accidents, and
  • Regular practice drills to ensure that staff and clients were able to respond quickly in an emergency.

Recently the PMFRC had an opportunity to put these updated procedures to the test as the organization responded to COVID-19.  The advance planning that had been done for accreditation allowed us to respond more quickly, and to establish processes to evaluate our results and make changes as required.

Client Centered Care

One of the hallmarks of Accreditation Canada's process is to put client needs at the centre of every decision.

In the case of client (both children and adults) seeking mental health supports, this means that the client is involved in the creation of their treatment plan so their goals can be accomplished..   This may start with asingle session to determine if the PMFRC offers the type of support the client is looking for. If so, the client and clinician work together build SMART goals for the client and ensure that a proper treatment plan is put into place so those goals can be accomplished.

If our services are not the best service for the client, the PMFRC staff will help the client to find – and connect with -more suitable supports in the community.

Continuous Improvement

Accreditation is one of the most effective ways for PMFRC to examine and improve the quality of our programs and services regularly and consistently.

Listening to and honouring our client and CAF Community perspectives is the key to PMFRC’s success in the development and delivery of our programs and services.  Seeking their insights can then be incorporated into the planning and delivery of programs, services and activities.

One way we do this, is with an online feedback form which allows clients to send feedback directly to our Executive Director.

In addition, the PMFRC team is accountable for ongoing effective monitoring, evaluating, and reporting of programs to ensure all objectives and outcomes are being met.

What's next

In the fall, the PMFRC will be participating in an on-site survey to renew our accreditation status.  This process will examine the agency's governance, leadership, risk management, and infection and prevention control measures.
