Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

One team, many perspectives!

At CFMWS, our strength lies in our people. We thrive through collaboration, shared goals and the value of diverse perspectives. Diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) are core to our identity and operations.

We’re committed to fostering a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace where every employee feels valued and empowered. We strive to ensure equal opportunities for all, and we work to build a culture where everyone can thrive.

Because at CFMWS, our greatest resource is – and always will be – our people.

Employment equity at CFMWS

Guided by the Employment Equity Act, we take proactive steps to identify and remove barriers and to increase the representation across the four equity groups:

  • Women
  • Indigenous workers
  • Workers with disabilities
  • Black and racialized workers

Our Employment Equity Action Plan outlines the strategies and commitments we’ve made to foster a more inclusive and equitable workplace. This plan is updated every three years and is supported by our DEI champions and strategic partners.

We also publish annual employment equity reports which track our progress and help us remain transparent and accountable.

Our champions and their network of allies

At CFMWS, one of the ways we bring our commitment to DEI to life is through the leadership of our DEI champions and their network of allies.

Our champions play a vital role in:

  • promoting awareness and understanding of the barriers that equity-deserving groups may face in the workplace
  • organizing events and initiatives that foster inclusion, celebrate diversity and create safe spaces for dialogue
  • providing resources and support to help employees feel seen, heard and valued
  • advising leadership to ensure DEI is embedded in organizational decision-making and business planning

Together with their allies, champions help bridge gaps, build community and drive meaningful change across CFMWS.

Meet our champions!

    Co-Champion for Indigenous People
"My leadership is guided by a deep responsibility to my ancestors and a vision for a future rooted in respect, relationship, and cultural revitalization. As Co-Champion for Indigenous Peoples at CFMWS, I advocate for the meaningful inclusion of Indigenous worldviews, teachings, and voices within the Defence and military-affiliated community. I believe reconciliation begins with listening, learning, and building trust. I’m dedicated to creating welcoming spaces where Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples can come together to share stories, ask questions, and walk forward in partnership. My goal is not just representation, but transformation. Where systems are reshaped by Indigenous knowledge, not just informed by it."

“I am proud to be your Official Languages Champion! I have a deep passion for the historical journey of language rights in Canada. Our country’s linguistic duality is not just a constitutional requirement: it reflects our identity, values, and commitment to inclusion. I believe that understanding the cultural richness and historical struggles behind our official languages fosters greater appreciation and support. I value both the practical and symbolic importance of bilingualism and see this role as a chance to raise awareness, promote respect and build bridges between linguistic communities within our organization.”

As the Champion for Black and Racialized Persons, I will facilitate events and dialogue on some potentially difficult conversations, such as racism and social justice. We will do so in a safe and open environment, just like a family around the dining table. Our ultimate goal is to learn, educate, and advocate for a more just workplace and society."

    Champion for 2SLGBTQIA+ Community
" I am so honoured to be your 2SLGBTQIA+ Champion! As such, my hope is to not only represent a voice for you and your family when it comes to inclusion and diversity policies for our queer community, but also work for you and your needs behind the scenes within the greater world of CFMWS. I want to help build a network based on support, diversity, understanding, compassion and most of all, mutual respect. My promise is to continue the communications, be open and present when engaging with you and to understand your needs in hopes of creating a better tomorrow for all. At the end of the day, I wish to create honest, safe dialogue that can further a network of support and understanding from a level of respect and dignity for all. "
