Relocation

New to the Community?

Relocating to Thunder Bay or adjusting to the military lifestyle can be exciting and stressful. The Thunder Bay Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) can help make it easier.

Contact the Thunder Bay MFRC at 807-345-5116 or drop into the Centre at 125 N. Algoma Street to meet our staff and know the supports and resources available for you.

Welcome Package

If you are new to Thunder Bay, come see the MFRC for your Welcome Package.

You will find the package filled with information about everything you need to know to get settled in your new community:  housing, daycares, schools, health care, Ontario driver's license information, shopping, and more! You will also learn about the city's surrounding area and its many attractions.

Get Involved

Whether you are a military member or veteran, the spouse, friend, family member or child of an active military member or veteran, or simply a caring member of our community, there are many ways to get involved with us.

  • Donate

    Donations are gratefully welcomed

The Thunder Bay MFRC is a registered charity in Canada with registration number 133 105 536 RR0001.

We issue tax receipts for donations over $20 that are qualified per the Canadian Revenue Agency.

Please contact us for more information about making a donation by cash or cheque, if you are considering a bequest in your will, or need other information about how you can support us.

Email [email protected] or call 807-345-5116.
  • Sponsor
Sponsorship differs from donations as there is an exchange of value where the contributor receives benefits which nullify the free giving of a gift.

These benefits can range from event access to naming rights and advertising. Sometimes it is a greater benefit for a business to make a sponsorship investment than a donation.

Please contact us to discuss a sponsorship that can help you reach your marketing goals while supporting our programs.
  • Volunteer
Our Volunteer Program allows volunteers to partner with staff in providing services, programs, and activities for the Thunder Bay military community.

Volunteers enhance their social circle, gain experience and develop skills, along with the satisfaction of giving back to the community. Many are augmenting their resumes for entry into the job market, while others are maintaining valuable skills acquired through past postings.

    Our Program includes:

    •    Recruitment
    •    Orientation
    •    Training and Support
    •    Supervision and Assessment
    •    Recognition

Volunteers can be involved in a variety of ways:

    •    Day-to-day MFRC operations
    •    Drop-in Volunteer Days
    •    Deployment Support
    •    Advisory Committee
    •    Program/Project Facilitators
    •    Warm Line Callers
    •    Welcome Packages
    •    Event Volunteers

Or we can create an opportunity suited to your skill set!

    Commitment

We make every effort to meet the needs of volunteers while ensuring that all programs and services are maintained to the highest standards. We are open to short-term, on an as-needed and on-call basis, and long-term volunteering.

    Who we are looking for

    Adult or Family

You can spend quality time with your family, meet new people, build a resume, and enhance your life in the presence of other military families.

    Youth

In Ontario, students must earn 40 community involvement hours to graduate from high school. You can start accumulating your community involvement hours in the summer before entering Grade 9.

To join our volunteers, please contact Evelyn Harrison at 807-345-5116 or [email protected].
