CFB Esquimalt Sports Awards

The CFB Esquimalt Sports Awards celebrate the dedication, talent, and spirit of our local Tritons athletes, teams, and community members. These annual awards recognise exceptional performance, leadership, and commitment to sport across the base. 

Each fall, nominations and voting open online and are promoted through our official social media channels. Members of the base sports community—athletes, coaches, officials, and supporters—are invited to submit nominations. Award finalists and winners are announced digitally, with each year's recipients honoured online. 

Award Categories:

  • Dedicated to Sport - For individuals who go above and beyond—regularly participating, organising, supporting teammates, and promoting sport culture on and off base. 
  • Female Athlete of the Year - For a Tritons athlete who has delivered an exceptional season marked by performance, leadership, and consistency. 
  • Male Athlete of the Year - For a Tritons athlete who has demonstrated excellence in competition, skill, and team leadership. 
  • Team of the Year - For the Tritons team that exemplified excellence in performance, cohesion, and commitment throughout the season. 
  • Sportsmanship Award - For athletes who lead with respect, integrity, and a positive spirit both on and off the field.

  • 2024 - 2025 Winners

    This year’s Sports Awards have moved to a digital platform. Five award categories were featured, each showcasing three finalists who were presented on social media, with winners selected by the Sports Committee.

    The nomination period ran from September 12–26, 2025, and the winners were announced at the end of October 2025.

    Teams: Men’s Hockey and Slo-Pitch
    With Tritons since: 2016

    CPO2 Rob Tibbetts is a dedicated leader and ambassador for CAF sports, known for his commitment, mentorship, and drive to strengthen team culture and community engagement across multiple disciplines. Serving as captain and manager of several Tritons teams, he continues to inspire excellence and inclusivity both within CFB Esquimalt and across the CAF sports network.

    Highlights & Accomplishments:

    Tritons Hockey: Served as Captain and Manager, fostering a positive and inclusive team culture while pursuing a National Championship. Led community outreach games in Port Hardy, and represented the CANWEST Region on the CAF National Hockey Council, contributing to the development of CAF hockey nationwide.

    Tritons Slo-Pitch: Captained a young Tritons squad to the CANWEST Regionals Final, earning multiple Player of the Game awards and an impressive 24/25 batting record during the tournament. Helped establish a Co-Ed Tritons Team that competed at the West Coast Invitational against top-level civilian opponents.

    CAF Navy Run: As former CANSUBFOR Team Captain, organized unit participation for four consecutive years, ensuring both members at sea and families could take part — earning multiple Largest Unit Participation Awards.

    Engagement: Served as Captain and Manager of the MARPAC Selects for the VIC Cup Classic (MFRC fundraiser). Competed with the VIC City Co-Ed Team at the CSE World Series (140+ teams), demonstrating outstanding sportsmanship and leadership.

    Teams: Running & Triathlon
    With Tritons since: 2023

    MS Amanda Polus exemplifies dedication, endurance, and leadership within the CAF sports community. Balancing elite-level training with mentorship, she has represented CFB Esquimalt with excellence at regional, national, and international competitions, while inspiring peers to pursue active, balanced lifestyles.

    Highlights & Accomplishments:

    Running & Triathlon: Competed at the CISM Half Marathon Championships (Bosnia) and CAF Triathlon Nationals, earning a silver medal (2025). Achieved multiple podium finishes including bronze at the Victoria Half Ironman and bronze at the Edmonton Half Marathon Championships.

    National & Regional Success: Placed second overall in the Vancouver Island Race Series and represented CAF at the Canadian 10K Championships (Ottawa). Frequently placed on the podium in local Vancouver Island races and triathlons.

    Endurance Leadership: Completed Ironman Canada events in both Penticton and Ottawa, while also pacing friends at the TC 10K, Victoria Half Marathon, and full marathons, helping others achieve their performance goals.

    Team: Volleyball / CISM
    With Tritons since: 2023

    Cpl Brandon Rivera has been a driving force behind the success of the CFB Esquimalt Men’s Volleyball Team, known for his skill, leadership, and consistency both on and off the court. Representing the Tritons and the CAF at regional, national, and international levels, he continues to elevate the standard of CAF volleyball through performance and mentorship.

    Highlights & Accomplishments:

    Tritons: CANWEST Regional Silver Medalist (2025) and Regional Champion (2024). Named CANWEST Regional MVP for three consecutive seasons.

    CISM Representation: Competed internationally with the CAF CISM Men’s Volleyball Team, including: Canada Volleyball Senior Open – Gatineau (2025); USA Volleyball Senior Open Nationals – Denver (2025); USA–CAN Military Volleyball Tournament – Kingston (2025).

    Leadership: Served as Team Captain/Co-Captain and OPI for the CFB Esquimalt Men’s Volleyball Team (2023–2025).

    With Tritons since: 2023

    SLt Frédérique Gauthier is recognized for her strong performance, leadership, and dedication across multiple Tritons sports. Competing for CFB Esquimalt since 2023, she has consistently demonstrated excellence on the ice and on the field, earning top honours at both regional and national levels.

    Highlights & Accomplishments:

    Tritons Hockey: Competed at CAF Hockey Regionals and Nationals (2024 and 2025 seasons), earning Tournament MVP at Regionals and Team MVP at Nationals, along with multiple Game MVP awards; Selected to compete in the All-Star Game at CAF Hockey Nationals, representing CFB Esquimalt among the CAF’s top athletes (2025).

    Tritons Slo-Pitch: Participated in CAF Slo-Pitch Regionals and Nationals (2024 & 2025), contributing to strong team performances and continued success within the Tritons program.

    Leadership: While deployed aboard HMCS Vancouver, helped organize and participate in friendly hockey games in the Philippines and Japan, promoting teamwork, morale, and CAF sport spirit abroad.

    With Tritons since: 2018

    MS Roseline Clark is a long-time member of the Tritons and a leader both on and off the field. Competing for CFB Esquimalt since 2018, she is recognized for her commitment, teamwork, and exceptional sportsmanship - qualities that earned her the Sportsmanship Award.

    Highlights & Accomplishments:

    Tritons Hockey: CANWEST Regional Champion (both the 2024 and 2025 seasons) and third place at CAF Nationals 2025. Served as Assistant/Alternate Captain, demonstrating strong leadership and consistency. 

    Tritons Slo-Pitch: CANWEST Regional Champion (2024 & 2025) and third place at CAF Nationals 2024. Took on a management role in 2025, coordinating logistics and team communication during the absence of the captain and coach.

    Leadership and Contribution: Served as OPS Sports Representative at NFS(P) and Alternate GM for the Goats Hockey Team (Naden Hockey League), managing logistics, scheduling, and participation.

    Intramural Sports Success: Active in base intramurals, winning Slo-Pitch tournaments with NFS(P) in both the 2024 and 2025 seasons.

    CAF Fitness Commitment: Certified FORCE Test Coordinator at NFS(P); achieved Gold fitness level for multiple years and was withinh two points of Platinum in 2025.

    The CFB Esquimalt Tritons Women’s Hockey Team earned the title of Team of the Year for their outstanding performance, commitment, and representation of Esquimalt at both regional and national levels.

    During the 2024–2025 season, the team captured the CANWEST Championship title and went on to achieve a third-place finish at CAF Nationals. Their success reflects not only athletic excellence but also teamwork, perseverance, and leadership across all members.

    The Tritons Women’s Hockey Team continues to embody the spirit of CAF sport—demonstrating dedication, camaraderie, and pride in representing CFB Esquimalt on and off the ice.
