🎯 Summer Sports Day 2026 – June 12!

Step away from work and into the action from 0800–1200 hrs as we come together for a morning focused on wellness, sport, and community connection. With a variety of sports and activities to choose from, there’s a way for everyone to participate and enjoy the day.

Come get active, build morale, and have some fun!

Civilian employees are asked to complete the Get Active Questionnaire and email the OPI of their selected sport.



Events

  • BADMINTON DOUBLES TOURNAMENT

    BADMINTON DOUBLES TOURNAMENT

    1.    The following is required to participate in the Badminton Doubles Tournament, being held as part of the 4 Wing Summer Sports Day on Friday, 12 June 2026:

    a.   Team captains or individual participants, please fill out the form at 👉 4 Wing Summer Sports Day Registration Form NLT 10 June 2026 or until the event reaches capacity – whichever one comes first;

    b.   Team captain must also send in the two person team 👉 Team Roster to Event OPI, Cpl Wallis Naing via e-mail to wallis.naing@forces.gc.ca NLT 10 June 2026; and

    c.    Team Captain must be identified as the first person on the roster, followed by one other player’s name, rank, unit, and local. Please include a Team Name!

    2. All participants will attend the Official Opening Ceremonies for the Summer Sports Day celebrations, which will take place in the Col. J.J. Parr Sports Centre Blue Arena. Participants are to be in attendance NLT 0750 hrs.

    3.    Participants will be dressed in appropriate sports attire, and spectators can either be dressed in civilian attire with a jersey, or dress of the day, if not wearing a jersey.

    4. The event is scheduled to start at 0830 hrs and will end NLT 1300 hrs. Meeting point will be in the main gymnasium in Col JJ Parr Sports Centre. We will be utilizing half the gymnasium for our event.

    5. If a certain sporting event concludes before 1200hrs, participants will remain as spectators for the other events until noon.

    6.    The following rules/provisions/details will apply to the tournament:    

    a.    racquets, and shuttles will be provided, but feel free to bring your own;

    b.    indoor court shoes are strongly recommended; however clean indoor shoes will be accepted;

    c.    tournament is co-ed; floaters accepted;
      
    d.    format will depend on the number of doubles teams registered; and
      
    e.    participation, fun, fitness, and safety will be the emphasis.

    7.    While this is a fun, Wing-wide Sports Day, you are considered to be “on duty”; therefore, alcohol and/or cannabis consumption is not permitted.

  • OUTDOOR DODGEBALL

    DODGEBALL TOURNAMENT

    1.    The following is required to participate in the outdoor Dodgeball Tournament, being held as part of the 4 Wing Summer Sports Day on Friday, 12 June 2026:

    a.    Team captains or individual participants, please fill out the 👉 4 Wing Summer Sports Day Form NLT 10 June 2026;

    b.    Team captains must also send in the 👉 TEAM ROSTER to Event OPI, Brooklyn MacDonald, via e-mail to Brooklyn.macdonald@forces.gc.ca NLT 10 June 2026; and

    c.    Team captain must be identified as the first person on the list, followed by each player’s name, rank, unit, and local. Please include a team name!

    2.    All participants will attend the Official Opening Ceremonies for the Summer Sports Day celebrations, which will take place in the Col. J.J. Parr Sports Centre Blue Arena. Participants are to be in attendance NLT 0750 hrs. 

    3.    Participants will be dressed in appropriate sports attire, and spectators can either be dressed in civilian attire with a jersey, or dress of the day, if not wearing a jersey.

    4.    If a certain sporting event concludes before 1200hrs, participants will remain as spectators for the other events until noon.

    5.    The following rules/provisions/details will apply to the tournament:    

    a.    tournament will be round robin format, and matches will be 10-minutes each with 5 minutes between games; 
     
    b.    teams must be present 15 minutes before the start of their match for check in and will be allotted a 10-minute warm up;

    c.    tournament is co-ed – everyone is welcome to participate; a minimum of 6 players per team and maximum of 8 players will be required; floaters will be accepted;

    d.    maximum of 8 teams will be accepted; and will be on a “first come, first serve” basis; and

    e.    games will be held outdoors on the Col J.J. Parr Sports Centre outdoor tennis courts. 

    6.    While this is a fun, Wing-wide Sports Day, you are considered to be “on duty”; therefore, alcohol and/or cannabis consumption is not permitted.

  • WELLNESS WALK

    WELLNESS WALK

    1.    The following is required to participate in the Unit Wellness Walk event, being held as part of the 4 Wing Summer Sports Day on Friday, 12 June 2026:

    a. Team captains, please fill out the form for Teams at 👉 4 Wing Summer Sports Day Teams  NLT 9 June 2026 and upload the 👉 Team Roster of names through the REGISTRATION FORM process or send in the team roster to Cynthia Melnick at Melnick.cynthia@cfmws.com. ; and

    b. Individual participants, please fill out this form at 👉4 Wing Summer Sports Day Individual Participants  NLT 12 June;

    c. Team captain must be identified as the first person on the roster, followed by each player’s name, rank, unit, and local. Please include a team name!

    2.    All participants will attend the Official Opening Ceremonies for the Summer Sports Day celebrations, which will take place in the Col. J.J. Parr Sports Centre Blue Arena. Participants are to be in attendance NLT 0750 hrs. 

    3.    Participants will be dressed in appropriate sports attire, and spectators can either be dressed in civilian attire with a jersey, or dress of the day, if not wearing a jersey.

    4.    If a certain sporting event concludes before 1200hrs, participants will remain as spectators for the other events until noon.

    5.    The following outlines the logistical details/requirements for Unit participation in this event:

    a.    Step 1 – Select a Route. Units are to select one of the designated two routes for their walk. Their walk is to be conducted at a time of their choosing between 0800-1200hrs. Routes must be completed no later than 1200hrs. A route is to be selected from those provided in Appendix 1 of these Joining Instructions; and

    b.    Step 2 – Appoint a Team Captain. Units are to appoint a Team captain to coordinate the participation of their Unit in this event. Team captain responsibilities are as follows:

    (1)    coordinate and communicate logistics of participation within their Unit. This would include details such as the route to be traveled, timings, safety considerations, dress, and registration of participants; and

    (2)    Team captain is to fill out the form linked above to participate in the event. Including the following information (you may choose to email your roster to the OPI or attach it to the form when registering):

    (a)    completed Team Roster – emailed to Cynthia Melnick at Melnick.cynthia@cfmws.com

    (b)    route selected 

    (c)    designated final walker (sweep)

    (d)    intended time of departure

    6.    While this is a fun, Wing-wide Sports Day, you are considered to be “on duty”; therefore, alcohol and/or cannabis consumption is not permitted.

  • TRY-A-TRI EVENT

    1. The following is required to participate in the Try-a-Tri Event, being held as part of the Summer Sports Day on Friday, 12 June 2026:

    a. Team captains or individual participants, please fill out the registration form 👉 4 Wing Summer Sports Day NLT 10 June 2026 or until the event reaches capacity – whichever one comes first;

    b. Team captain must also send in the 👉 TEAM ROSTER  to Event OPI, Hannah Penn via email to hannah.penn@forces.gc.ca NLT 10 June; and

    c. Team captain must be identified as the first person on the roster followed by each player’s name, rank, unit, and local. Please include a team name!

    2. All participants will attend the Official Opening Ceremonies for the Summer Sports Day celebrations, which will take place in the Col. J.J. Parr Sports Centre Blue Arena. Participants are to be in attendance NLT 0750 hrs.

    3. Participants will be dressed in appropriate sports attire, and spectators can either be dressed in civilian attire with a jersey, or dress of the day, if not wearing a jersey. Mixing of military and civilian attire is not authorized.

    4. The event is scheduled to start at 0830 hrs and will end NLT 1300 hrs. Meeting point will be on the pool deck, for final pre-event instructions.

    5. If a certain sporting event concludes before 1200hrs, participants will remain as spectators for the other events until noon.

    6. While this is a fun, Wing-wide Sports Day, you are considered to be “on duty”; therefore, alcohol and/or cannabis consumption is not permitted.

    7. The following rules/provisions/details will apply to the event:

    a. Swim.Bike.Run! The Try-a-Tri will take place at the Col JJ Parr Sports Centre and consists of the following in this order:
    500m swim in the Pool
    15km bike on a Keiser Spin Bike
    5km run on a set course outside

    b. The Try-a-Tri event is open to individuals or teams of 2 or 3. Individual registrants will do all three legs. Teams will split legs between participants however teams see fit.

    c. All triathletes will be present on the pool deck after the opening ceremonies for a safety brief and instructions (approximately 0830).

    d. Estimated start time is 0900hrs. Based on registration numbers, triathletes will be split into heats to prevent overcrowding in the pool, with subsequent heats starting their triathlon every 30 minutes. (Eg: Heat 1: 0900, Heat 2: 0930, etc). Following instructions, triathletes will have time to warmup prior to the start of their leg(s).

    e. Pool safety rules must be followed during the event. This includes walking on the pool deck at all times – no running. No outdoor footwear is allowed on the pool deck.

    f. Triathletes must wear appropriate swimwear during the swim leg and PT gear during the Bike/Run legs. Appropriate footwear will be worn during the Bike/Run legs. Cycling shoes are permitted but not required.

    g. Transitions will be explained during the preliminary instructions.

    h. We will track start and end time of the entire event. Time for each individual leg will not be tracked for official results.

    i. The Try-a-Tri is a FUN event where all levels of triathletes may participate, including first timers! While we will track timings, prizes may be given out based on participation. Fun (and appropriate) team names/t-shirts are encouraged.

  • YOGA

    OUTDOOR YOGA EVENT

    1. The following is required to participate in the Outdoor Yoga Event, being held as part of the Summer Sports Day on Friday, 12 June 2026: a. Individual participants, please fill out the form at 👉4 Wing Summer Sports Day  NLT 10 June 2026 or until the event reaches capacity -whichever one comes first;

    b. When registering please select the class time you wish to attend from below; and

    c. Number of participates will be capped at 50 for sign up per class. **You will be contacted if the class you signed up for is full and given an alternate time. 

    2. All participants will attend the Official Opening Ceremonies for the Summer Sports Day celebrations, which will take place in the Col. J.J. Parr Sports Centre Blue Arena. Participants are to be in attendance NLT 0750 hrs.

    3. Participants will be dressed in appropriate sports attire, and spectators can either be dressed in civilian attire with a jersey, or dress of the day, if not wearing a jersey. of military and civilian attire is not authorized.

    4. The first yoga session is scheduled to start at 0830 hrs and the last will begin at 1100 hrs. Meeting point will out the back door of Col JJ Parr Sports Centre – near the treed area to the left of soccer field.

    5. If a certain sporting event concludes before 1200hrs, participants will remain as spectators for the other events until noon.

    6. While this is a fun, Wing-wide Sports Day, you are considered to be “on duty”; therefore, alcohol and/or cannabis consumption is not permitted.

    7. The following rules/provisions/details will apply to this event:

    a. schedule for yoga classes will be as follows:

    i. 0830-0915hrs - Vinyasa Flow is an energetic style of yoga. This style of yoga builds strength, balance, and core stability, while improving flexibility

    ii. 0945-1030hrs - Yin Yoga is a deep stretching yoga style whereby postures are held for extended periods of time. Great for those who are in need of stress reduction and relaxation

    iii. 1100-1145 hrs - Yin Yoga

    b. yoga mats will be provided, but if you prefer your own yoga mat, and/or props, please bring them; we suggest that you dress in layers, bring a water bottle, hat, sunglasses and wear sunscreen.

  • PICKLEBALL DOUBLES TOURNAMENT

    PICKLEBALL DOUBLES TOURNAMENT

    1.    The following is required to participate in the Pickleball Doubles Tournament, being held as part of the 4 Wing Summer Sports Day on Friday, 12 June 2026:

    a.    Team captains or individual participants, please fill out the 👉  4 Wing Summer Sports Day Form NLT 10 June 2026;

    b.    Team captain must also send in the team 👉Team Roster to Event OPI, Capt Michael Lachance, via e-mail to  michael.lachance@forces.gc.ca NLT 10 June 2026; and 

    c.    Team captain must be identified as the first person on the list, followed by another player’s name, rank, unit, and local. Please include a team name!

    2.    All participants will attend the Official Opening Ceremonies for the Summer Sports Day celebrations, which will take place in the Col. J.J. Parr Sports Centre Blue Arena. Participants are to be in attendance NLT 0750 hrs. 

    3.    Participants will be dressed in appropriate sports attire, and spectators can either be dressed in civilian attire with a jersey, or dress of the day, if not wearing a jersey.

    4.    If a certain sporting event concludes before 1200hrs, participants will remain as spectators for the other events until noon.

    5. The event is scheduled to start at 0830 hrs and will end NLT 1300 hrs. Meeting point will be the main gymnasium located in Col JJ Parr Sports Centre.

    6.    The following rules/provisions/details will apply to the tournament:

    a.    games will be played in a doubles format within an allotted time, depending on the number of participants.Rules will be in accordance with the USA Pickleball Official Rulebook (Official USA Pickleball Rulebook) and the scoring format will follow Traditional Side-Out scoring (ie not rally point/MLP format). Depending on the number of teams, the OPI will brief whether games will be played to 11 or 15;

    b.    registration in pairs is ideal, but floaters will be accepted;

    c.    tournament is co-ed - everyone welcome; and will be on a “first come, first serve” basis; 

    d.    games will be held in the Col JJ Parr Sports Centre main gymnasium; and

    e.    racquets, and balls and a net will be provided, but feel free to bring your own.

    f.     eye protection is mandatory; the front desk at the JJ Parr has goggles available for sign out if you don’t have any of your own.

    7.    While this is a fun, Wing-wide Sports Day, you are considered to be “on duty”; therefore, alcohol and/or cannabis consumption is not permitted.

  • GRAPPLING 101 SESSION

    GRAPPLING 101 SEMINAR

    **This event is exclusive to military personnel – Grappling is not open to civilian participants.**
    1.    The following is required to participate in the Grappling Event, being held as part of the 4 Wing Summer Sports Day on Friday, 12 June 2026:

    a.    individual participants, please fill out the
    👉 4 Wing Summer Sports Day Form NLT 10 June 2026; 

    b.    please note if you have any prior grappling or martial arts experience; although none is required.

    2.    All participants will attend the Official Opening Ceremonies for the Summer Sports Day celebrations, which will take place in the Col. J.J. Parr Sports Centre Blue Arena. Participants are to be in attendance NLT 0750 hrs. 

    3.    The safety briefing for the grappling event will commence immediately after the Opening Ceremony in the mini gymnasium, with event running until 1230hrs. 

    4.    Participants will be dressed in appropriate sports attire, and spectators can either be dressed in civilian attire with a jersey, or dress of the day, if not wearing a jersey.

    5.    If a certain sporting event concludes before 1200hrs, participants will remain as spectators for the other events until noon.

    6.    The following rules/provisions/details will apply to this event:

    a.     this is a no-submission, beginner-friendly learning experience with an emphasis on movement and control, not competition;

    b.    this four-hour session will conducted using an ecological, constraints-led approach to learning; 

    c.    topics covered in this session include safety and grappling etiquette, positional hierarchy and body control, framing and defensive structure, and games-based positional sparring; and

    d.    participants must wear clean athletic clothing suitable for mat training (i.e. short, gi pants, rashguards)


    7.    While this is a fun, Wing-wide Sports Day, you are considered to be “on duty”; therefore, alcohol and/or cannabis consumption is not permitted.

  • WIFFLEBALL TOURNAMENT

    1. The following is required to participate in the Wiffleballl Tournament, being held as part of the Summer Sports Day on Friday, 12 June 2026:

    a. Team captains or individual participants, please fill out the registration form at 👉 4 Wing Summer Sports Day  form NLT 10 June 2026 or until the event reaches capacity – whichever one comes first;

    b. Team captain must also send in the 👉 TEAM ROSTER   to Event OPI, Malcolm Hooper at Malcolm.Hooper@forces.gc.ca  NLT 10 June 2026; and

    c. Team captain must be identified as the first person on the Roster, followed by each player’s name, rank, unit, and local. Please include a team name!

    2. All participants will attend the Official Opening Ceremonies for the Summer Sports Day celebrations, which will take place in the Col. J.J. Parr Sports Centre Blue Arena. Participants are to be in attendance NLT 0750 hrs.

    3. Participants will be dressed in appropriate sports attire, and spectators can either be dressed in civilian attire with a jersey, or dress of the day, if not wearing a jersey. Mixing of military and civilian attire is not authorized.

    4. The event is scheduled to start at 0830 hrs and will end NLT 1300 hrs.

    5. If a certain sporting event concludes before 1200hrs, participants will remain as spectators for the other events until noon.

    6. While this is a fun, Wing-wide Sports Day, you are considered to be “on duty”; therefore, alcohol and/or cannabis consumption is not permitted.

    7. The following rules/provisions/details will apply to the tournament:

    a. games will be played 9v9 within an allotted time, depending on the number of teams participating. As such, a minimum of 6 players per team and 12 maximum participants are required; Pitcher, Catcher, 1st, 2nd, SS, 3rd, RF, LF, CF.

    b. games will be 3 innings.

    c. entire roster of one team will bat before defense and offense switches.

    d. if teams are not of equal size the amount of the at bats will be dictated by the bigger team. Ex. A team of 12 and a team of 9 are playing each other, 3 people from the team of 9 will bat again so both teams get 12 at bats per inning.

    e. each team will be 3 at bats unless the home team is winning going into the bottom of the 3rd.

    f. all regular baseball rules apply, recording runs, outs, walks, etc.

    g. ‘home’ and ‘away’ will be decided before the start of each game by Rock, Paper, Scissors.

    h. ties at the end of 3 innings will also be decided in that fashion.

    i. tournament will be a round robin format, with play-offs to determine the winners;

    j. tournament will be co-ed – everyone is welcome to participate; sign up as a team or a floater. Floaters will be combined into teams randomly;

    k. registration will be on a “1st come 1st serve” basis, however all units will be given the opportunity to enter at least one team before units are granted positions for additional teams; and

    l. games will be held at the Col J.J. Parr Sports Centre soccer field.

  • OUTDOOR VOLLEYBALL

    OUTDOOR VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT

    1.    The following is required to participate in the Outdoor Volleyball Tournament, being held as part of the 4 Wing Summer Sports Day on Friday, 12 June 2026:

    a.    Team captains or individual participants, please fill out the 👉 4 Wing Summer Sports Day Form  NLT 10 June 2026; 

    b.    Please provide your 👉 team roster to Event OPI, Sgt Thuy Ly at thuy.ly@forces.gc.ca or MWO Gordon Lee, via e-mail to gordon.lee@forces.gc.ca NLT 10 June 2026; and

    c.    Team captain must be identified as the first person on the list, followed by each player’s name, rank, unit, and local. Please include a team name!

    2.    All participants will attend the Official Opening Ceremonies for the Summer Sports Day celebrations, which will take place in the Col. J.J. Parr Sports Centre Blue Arena. Participants are to be in attendance NLT 0750 hrs. 

    3.    Participants will be dressed in appropriate sports attire, and spectators can either be dressed in civilian attire with a jersey, or dress of the day, if not wearing a jersey.

    4.    If a certain sporting event concludes before 1200hrs, participants will remain as spectators for the other events until noon.

    5. The event is scheduled to start at 0830 hrs and will end NLT 1300 hrs. Meeting point will be at the beach volleyball court beside Col JJ Parr Sports Centre. 

    6.    The following rules/provisions/details will apply to the tournament:    

    a.    games will be played 6v6 within an allotted time, depending on the number of participants. As such, a minimum of 5 players per team will be required;

    b.    tournament will be a round robin format, with play-offs to determine the winners;

    c.    tournament will be co-ed – everyone is welcome to participate; sign up as a team or a floater. Floaters will be combined into teams randomly;

    d.    maximum of 12 teams will be accepted; and will be on a “first come, first serve” basis; 

    e.    a schedule of teams and timings will be sent out via email (DWAN) to the team captains NLT 1200hrs on Wednesday 10 June; 

    f.    games will be held outdoors at the Col J.J. Parr Sports Centre beach volleyball court south of the building; and  
    •   In case of extreme weather or other safety issues, the back up plan is to have the event run indoors on the JJ Parr facility main gymnasium (note the possibility of difference in athletic gear required, i.e. shoes /no shoes).
    g.    notification of any changes or cancellations will be passed via email (DWAN) to each team captain NLT 1200hrs on Thursday 11 June.

    7.    While this is a fun, Wing-wide Sports Day, you are considered to be “on duty”; therefore, alcohol and/or cannabis consumption is not permitted.

  • SINGLES TABLE TENNIS

    SINGLES TABLE TENNIS TOURNAMENT

    1.    The following is required to participate in the Singles Table Tennis Event, being held as part of the 4 Wing Summer Sports Day on Friday, 12 June 2026:

    a.    Individual participants, please fill out the 👉 4 Wing Summer Sports Day Registration Form NLT 10 June 2026; and 

    b.    Event OPI, MCpl Desjardins, at Simon.Desjardins2@forces.gc.ca will confirm your registration.

    2.    All participants will attend the Official Opening Ceremonies for the Summer Sports Day celebrations, which will take place in the Col. J.J. Parr Sports Centre Blue Arena. Participants are to be in attendance NLT 0750 hrs. 

    3.    Participants will be dressed in appropriate sports attire, and spectators can either be dressed in civilian attire with a jersey, or dress of the day if not wearing a jersey.

    4. The event is scheduled to start at 0830 hrs and will end NLT 1200 hrs. Meeting point will be in the Squash Courts in Col JJ Parr Sports Centre, for final pre-tournament instructions.

    5.     If a certain sporting event concludes before 1200hrs, participants will remain as spectators for the other events until noon.

    6.    While this is a fun, Wing-wide Sports Day, participants are considered to be “on duty”; therefore, alcohol and/or cannabis consumption will not be permitted.

    7.    The following rules/provisions/details will apply to the tournament:    

    a.    games will be played in a singles format within an allotted time, depending on the number of participants; 

    b.    format will depend on the number of members registered;

    c.    tournament is co-ed - everyone welcome; and will be on a “first come, first serve” basis; 

    d.    games will be held in the squash court; and

    e.    paddles and balls and a net will be provided, but feel free to bring your own.

  • DISC GOLF

    DISC GOLF EVENT

    1.    The following is required to participate in the Disc Golf Event, being held as part of the 4 Wing Summer Sports Day on Friday, 12 June 2026:

    a.    Team captains or individual participants, please fill out the 👉 4 Wing Summer Sports Day Form NLT 10 June 2026; 

    b.    Team captain must also send in the 👉 TEAM ROSTER to Event OPI, Cpl Alex Bourdages at alex.bourdages@forces.gc.ca NLT 10 June 2026; and  

    c.    Team captain must be identified as the first person on the list, followed by each player’s name, rank, unit, and local. Please include a team name!

    2.    All participants will attend the Official Opening Ceremonies for the Summer Sports Day celebrations, which will take place in the Col. J.J. Parr Sports Centre Blue Arena. Participants are to be in attendance NLT 0750 hrs. 

    3.    Participants will be dressed in appropriate sports attire, and spectators can either be dressed in civilian attire with a jersey, or dress of the day, if not wearing a jersey.

    4.    The event is scheduled to start at 0830 hrs and will end NLT 1300 hrs. Meeting point will be the blue gazebo, located at the disc golf course, for final pre-tournament instructions.

    5.    If a certain sporting event concludes before 1200hrs, participants will remain as spectators for the other events until noon.

    6.    The following rules/provisions/details will apply to the event:    

    a.    discs will be available at the disc golf park at the event. Participants are encouraged to bring their own discs due to limited supply. Regular frisbees may be used; 

    b.    min 4 players and max 7 players per group; floaters accepted;

    c.    Tee time vs shotgun start format will be determined based on the number of participants. Teams will be made aware of their tee times the day prior to the event should that format be chosen;

    d.    the event is co-ed – everyone is welcome to participate; and

    e.    the disc golf course is located at the 4 Wing campground, across from Martineau; 

    7.    While this is a fun, Wing-wide Sports Day, you are considered to be “on duty”; therefore, alcohol and/or cannabis consumption is not permitted.
