Garden Club

Two hands holding a bowl of cherry tomatoes

The rewards of belonging to a garden club go far beyond the pleasure of growing things. Joining the garden club is a great way to "green" your thumb and meet new people.

Membership provides an opportunity to expand your interests while bettering your community and the environment. CFB Wainwright provides an excellent gardening facility. Water taps are located at the base of each garden plot, there is ample parking, and a small tiller and lawn mower available for use at the gardens. In addition, need we say "Location-Location-Location". Our gardens are located close to the main gate, so you can visit your garden without having to go out of your way. So come on out and get some relaxing exercise, fresh air and discover the satisfaction of growing your own fresh vegetables and saving some money at the same time.

Must be followed by all members within the club.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I use hay bales?
In 2024 it was advised by the council to not use hay bales as in 2023 it led to more weed growth.
  • Can I use pesticides and herbicides?
Members must follow the base environmenal policy for these products.
  • How do I get a plot?
Plots are assigned at the AGM, all members must attend the AGM.
    • If you do not attend the AGM you will be assigned a plot and likely unable to change it.
    • Plot assignments will be prioritzed to long standing club members who will be given their previous plots.
    • Plots will be grouped together for ease of mowing and tilling.
  • How do I register?
Registration opens late April or early May. Once registration is open it is posted on our Facebook page (PSP Wainwright) and on this page.
Registration consists of an online form for members to fill out, PSP verifies membership status and contacts anyone who may not meet the requirements. If you missed registration you can reach out to the club president to sign up.
  • What is the tool rental fee and how does it work?
The tool rental fee is an optional fee for all members. The fee allows you to utilize all the garden tools in the seacan, provided you fuel them yourself and clean them once you're done with them. It is required that you mow along your garden plot and take care of your plots weed, this fee allows you to conveniently utilize the tools without having to bring them with you.

The key is signed out at the MP Det and must be returned after you are done with it. When you pay for your plots you will be asked if you would like to participate in the fee, at which point your name(s) will be added to the key list.
  • What sizes are the plots?
    Plots between 1-22 are roughly 20ft W x 30ft L
    Plots between 23-50 are roughly 25ft W x 50ft L

Plots between 51-86 are rarely occupied and vary in size. If you are looking for a plot larger than what is offered between 1-50, reach out to the Club President.

  • When can I plant?
Your are restricted from planting anything in the club gardens until you register, pay and are given a plot assignment. Anyone who does not follow this policy will be restricted from joining the club.

Commonly the club opens the club for planting May long weekend. The President puts in a request to have the water turned on around this time, once you are registered you will receive regular updates from them about when to plant, when the water is turned on, notices and more.
  • When is the club AGM?
The club AGM takes place once registration closes, this will be advertised on this page and our Facebook page (PSP Wainwright). It is recommended all interested members attend to receive any updates on the club or base policies or changes. This is where you will also be assigned your plot and instructed on where to pay and when to plant.
  • Who is eligible for a plot?
Anyone with an active PSP Plan Membership or One Club Membership
