What It Means to Be a Military Kid: A Creative Contest

Calling all military kids! This April, share your unique story in our special contest through writing, art, music, videos, or other creative forms. For a list of ideas on what to submit, see the list below. Your experiences matter and can inspire others while celebrating the resilience of military children.

Optional: Incorporate teal and the dandelion, symbols of Canadian military children, to add meaning to your submission.

Submission Details:

  • Deadline: April 26 at 1 PM (extended deadline)

  • Email: Send entries to mfsncr@cfmws.com with the subject "What It Means to Be a Military Kid Contest"

  • In-person: Drop entries off at Uplands Military Community Centre, 330 Croil Private, Building 471, Ottawa OR at the Celebration at Parliament Hill on April 26th

Let your creativity shine! We can’t wait to celebrate military kids during the Month of the Military Child.

Share your unique perspective through various forms of creativity, including:

Photography: Share a photo that  shows your life as a military kid. 

Creative Writing: Write poems, short stories, essays, or letters about your experiences as a military kid. 

Drawings or Paintings: Create and submit your artwork. You can also send a photo of your artwork with a short description about your experience as a military kid. 

Digital Art: Make original art using digital tools that highlight your experiences as a military kid.

Video: Create a short skit or performance that showcases your experiences as a military kid.

Music: Submit an original song or cover. Include a note on why it’s meaningful to you as a military kid.
