Volunteering

Volunteers are an essential component of the MFRC and each individual enriches and enhances all of the programs and services that we provide.

The achievement of the goals of the MFRC is best served by the active participation of the citizens of the military community. To this end, the MFRC accepts, encourages and WELCOMES the involvement of all volunteers at all levels of our organization.

Volunteers are the backbone of the MFRC and they serve in every facet of our centre’s operation and foster pride in our community. Many, if not all of our programs and services are reliant on volunteers. Volunteerism is life and energy of what makes the Moose Jaw MFRC a great family resource centre.

Benefits

Volunteering is a great way to meet new friends, become involved, socialize, be part of a team, develop new skills, share talents with others and make a difference! The possibilities are endless! Volunteer experience is beneficial on resumes and applications to post-secondary schools. It is a self-gratifying way to earn experience and be involved in your community. Becoming a volunteer at the Moose Jaw MFRC is a rewarding experience that you will surely remember for years to come.

*** At the Moose Jaw MFRC we believe that it should never cost a person to volunteer, so when you donate your valuable time and energy to our Centre your children age 5 and under can spend time at our casual childcare centre, the ELC, for FREE ***

Our dedicated staff and Board members are here to assist you with any questions and support you so that your experience is a positive one!

Volunteer Opportunities

  • Board of Directors
The Board of Directors is the legal authority for the MFRC and is responsible to the Military Community. As a member of this volunteer Board, a Director is a trustee for the community and is responsible for the effective governance of the organization. Members of the Board provide guidance, support and direction to the Executive Director to set overall policy and establish long-term goals of the MFRC. Volunteer positions on the Board are often available throughout the year.

The Board of Directors is comprised of 51% military spouses, and the balance is to be from the military and civilian community. In addition, several ex-officio positions (non-voting) are appointed for their expertise. Volunteers who wish to be part of the Board of Directors need only to have an interest in the work of the MFRC and be willing to participate in monthly meetings to discuss current and ongoing issues relating to the MFRC. As a member of the Board, you will set policies that are in line with our mission and vision, and that of the national Military Family Services Program (MFSP). As well, as a Board member you will have a voice in how services are delivered in your community through the resource centre.
  • Special Events Committee
The MFRC plans many special community building events throughout the year organized by a fantastic and dynamic group of individuals who are all volunteers! The primary focus of this committee is to plan, organize, deliver and evaluate special events for the MFRC. The events will include, but are not limited to:
    • Open House/Family Day
    • Community Building Events such as the Family Halloween, Christmas & Easter parties!
The Special Events Committee has loads of fun and they are always in need of new members.
  • Family Connection Program

We need your Spouse for an important opportunity to build a stronger RCAF! Help ease the transition for military families moving to your community and offer support during deployments. If your loved one is looking to make a difference there is no better chance!

Volunteer Appreciation

Recognition for your volunteer work will be ongoing, through personal interaction and expressions of appreciation with those working alongside you!

In addition, volunteers will be invited to at least two formal recognition events annually; one held close to National Volunteer Appreciation Week in April, the other held close to Christmas.  We also host fun, informal events throughout the year, such as our Valentine's Sweets & Treats coffee morning.
