Kingston is home to two English and two French school boards offering Junior Kindergarten through Grade 12.
The Limestone District School Board:
The Limestone District School Board is a non-denominational English-language school board offering elementary and secondary students an education that is enriched with diverse and unique programming opportunities and activities to complement the Ontario curriculum while supporting the achievement and well-being of every student.- The Limestone District School Board offers a wide variety of programs in the academics, the arts and technology as well as special programming such as Full-Day Kindergarten, French Immersion, International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement. Experiential learning is cultivated in both the elementary and secondary panels. We also offer expanded opportunities to secondary students such as our well known Focus Programs, Specialist High Skills Major, Co-operative Education, Dual Credits and Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Programs. We aim to offer a variety of programming to meet the needs of every student.
- Families may use the KMFRC address to register for school, until they have their permanent address in Kingston.
- It is Important to mention if student(s) have attended a school in Ontario as the new school can access students’ Ontario Student Record Number (OSR).
- École Maple Elementary School closes on July 5 and reopens August 26, 2024. Please note that the during this time new student registrations cannot be processed until the office re-opens. Families are encouraged to register prior to July 5, if possible.
- French Programs: LDSB offers Core French, Early Immersion and Extended French/Late Immersion
- Choices at 7: Extended French Immersion, LEAP, ATLAS, and Challenge enrichment programming
- Choices at 9: International Baccalaureate, Academic Challenge Program, and Academic Arts Enriched Programs
- Expanded Opportunities Students in Grades 7 to 12 can customize their education to their individual strengths, goals, and interests. Students may create or choose one of four possible post-secondary destinations: Apprenticeship Programs; College; University; or the Workplace. Program offerings include Specialist High Skills Major, Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program, Skilled Trades and Technology, Dual Credit and School within a College.

- The Limestone District School Board strives to ensure both a range of programs for varying exceptionalities and a balance in programs and services. Special education services are available at each elementary and secondary school in our district.
Algonquin & Lakeshore Catholic District School Board: French immersion programs- The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board covers a wide geographic area of more than 16,000 square kilometres from Whitney in the North, Picton in the South, Trenton in the West and Kingston in the East.
- ALCDSB serves over 11,000 students in 33 elementary schools, five secondary schools and five adult learning sites.
- ALCDSB also offers a variety of French as a Second Language (FSL) programs, including French Immersion, Core French and Extended French. French Immersion is offered at five locations across the Board.
- The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board offers a wide range of programs across it’s Catholic system, including a focus on Indigenous education, outdoor education, and mental health and well-being. The Board also boasts numerous specialty programs, including 16 Specialist High Skills Majors, Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Programs and Co-Operative Education. ALCDSB focuses on a Universal Design for Learning Framework, which allows the Board to meet the needs of all learners by removing barriers and designing learning supports that are necessary for some but good for all learners.

Upper Canada District Board: English public-school board serving Gananoque and Brockville.
- It is important to register your child as soon as you have a permanent address. If you don't have a permanent address, but you know which school your child will attend, please contact the school to let them know ASAP.
- The Ontario Ministry of Education offers a School Information Finder to search for publicly funded schools in Ontario and learn more about them. Search by town/city, school board, postal code or school name. After your search, click on a school's name to view information about the school itself, its students and their achievement.

Private Schools
There are numerous private schools in Kingston that cater to various spiritual and educational needs. Many of these facilities can offer smaller classroom sizes and specialized programs. Private schools are not funded by the government, they are independent schools with varying tuition fees.

French Education
Children whose parents are French-language rights holders are automatically admitted to a French-language school if they apply. Although, individuals who do not meet the criteria may still apply for admission to a French-language school. The application is reviewed by the admission committee at the local school board.
