Gander MFRC Family Medical Travel Fund

Who is eligible for assistance?

  • Spouses of Reg Force, Reservists and Canadian Ranger CAF members listed on the members MPRR.
  • Dependent children of Reg Force, Reservists, and Canadian Ranger CAF members. Children must be listed on the members MPRR, under 18 years of age, or unable to care for themselves if they are over 18 years of age.
  • Reservists and Canadian Ranger members who are not entitled to medical services from DND.
Program Guidelines
  • All travel must be pre-approved by contacting our Business Operations Manager at tracy.ryan@forces.gc.ca or 709-256-1703 ext. 6221206.
  • If you have private health insurance that covers medical travel, you must go through them first.
  • Funding will not be approved for routine or elective/cosmetic procedure appointments (i.e. GP, dentist’s visits, x-rays, Ultrasounds/CT Scans, blood work, eye exams, hearing aid consults, or laser eye surgery).
  • We will fund MCP specialized services such as Janeway and specialist appointments, surgeries, Chemotherapy, Dialysis, Radiation, Nuclear Medicine Tests, MRI’s and PET Scans that are only available outside a 100 km radius of your residence and are at the closest facility near you available for those services.
  • Mileage is paid per kilometer from home residence to the appointment location and back home again(less 100 km each way)using current treasury board lower kilometric rates at the time of the appointment.
  • Approved lodgings will be refunded up to a maximum of $120.00/night.
  • Claims must be submitted within 90 days of the medical appointment.



 

Beneficiaries required to travel for medical services, upon referral by their medical professional, may be eligible to apply for financial assistance under the Fund for gas and/or lodging.

Applications will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis to determine funding amount.

The goal of this fund is to maximize the benefit of limited funding for all families and to alleviate some of the financial stress incurred by families in this circumstances.

To obtain a medical travel fund form, you can print one from the Shared Working Documents section on the 9 Wing home page. You can also pick one up from the MFRC or have one faxed, or emailed directly to you. This form must be completed and signed by the medical office staff in which you have your appointment before returning to the the MFRC for reimbursement.

To get approval for lodgings, please email peggy.blake@forces.gc.ca before you attend your appointment as this is a limited fund and lodgings are approved on a case by case basis.
