The Advanced Keelboat Course is designed to take students that have completed the BSC and have practiced sailing on their own to expand their knowledge in order to rent larger vessels and expand their cruising areas. Cost is $250 (inc GST).
The course is delivered via:
Course Content:
- Trip route planning, review tides and current, navigation with and without GPS
- Review weather sources, practice listening to VHF forecast and record pertinent conditions and forecast from the broadcast
- Fresh water management
- Waste water management
- Fuel management and calculations
- AC and DC power systems and management
- Use of cabin heat
- Navigation, review aids to navigation and chart symbols
- Use of dinghy outboard, going ashore
- Docking a high freeboard sailboat
- Cooking, use of galley equipment and galley safety
- Refueling and approaching unfamiliar marinas
- Sail area planning based on winds, knowing when to reef, weather helm
- DC and AC Electrical basics and troubleshooting (including lithium batteries)
- Advanced anchoring techniques, stern tying and use of electric windlass
- Refrigeration basics
- Plumbing basics
- Diesel engine operation and care
- Use of furling main sail
- Radar basics
