The Suffield Junior Ranks' Mess / Longhorn is a hub of activity for it's members on a daily basis. We proudly support Mess members from both the Canadian and British Armed Forces.

Arrivals and Departures
Arrivals
Upon arrival, please ensure that you book into the Mess. This will allow you access to the amenities (etc) the Mess provides.
Temporary Staff (BATUS) Red Cards
You will be issued a “Red Card” upon booking into the Mess. This identifies you as a Temorary Staff member and NOT battle group. This may be requested when entering the Junior Ranks' Mess. Please keep this on you at all times.
Permanent Staff (BATUS, or CAF) White Cards
You will be issued a “White Card” upon booking into the Mess. This identifies you as a Permanent Mess Member. This may be requested when entering the Junior Ranks' Mess. Please keep this on you at all times.
Associates and Honorary Members Blue Cards
You will be issued a “Blue Card” upon booking into the Mess. This identifies you as an Associate or Honorary Mess Member. This may be requested when entering the Junior Ranks' Mess. Please keep this on you at all times.Departures
Temporary Staff: When leaving Suffield, Temporary staff MUST ensure they inform the Mess Manager at least 1 week prior to departure so a final bill can be prepared. If sufficient notice is not given, you will pay Mess dues for the entire month of which you are departing. All Mess accounts must be paid in full prior to their departure. Failure to do so will result in further bills being raised against you. Unpaid accounts will be passed to the Base or BATUS RSM for follow up action and recovery of monies outstanding from Parent Units.
CAF and BATUS Permanent Mess Members: We request that you make the effort to inform the Mess at least 2 weeks prior to your departure to ensure your Mess departure gift and final Mess bill can be prepared. If sufficient notice is not given, you may not receive a departure gift in time. -

The Suffield Junior Ranks' Mess holds various functions, events and draws throughout the year. You can find out what is coming up next by checking out our Calendar of Events. This site will be updated with all information pertaining to each function.
Tuesdays & Thursdays 1000-1030 hours
Every Tuesday &Thursday come to the Junior Ranks Mess for a warm (or cold) drink and snacks. Don't forget to get your name into the weekly draw for a chance to win a $25.00 gift card.

Most events will require pre-registration. As such, a proforma for each event will be posted on our website, available at the Mess and will be emailed to each member. Please submit your proforma by the due date listed on the proforma to ensure a space is allocated to you.
*Please note that if you submit a proforma (register) to attend a function and you cancel after the cut-off date, charges for this function will still apply to you. -
Dress Regulations
It is the responsibility of all members of the Mess to maintain the highest standard of dress that will bring and reflect credit upon the member, the Mess, and the Base. Combinations of civilian and military dress will not be tolerated. Hats/Berets, coats, belts, briefcases, drill canes and pace sticks will be left in the cloakroom. The dress for each function will be clearly indicated on the function Proforma and the Mess notice board. It is the responsibility of all Mess members to ensure that dress regulations are adhered to at all times.
Orders of dress are defined as follows:- Dress regulations in the Club will be posted on the Club notice board. Dress should be clean and in good repair. Members are reminded that the dress regulation of Club are those of a Military Mess.
- Dress for functions will be specifically ordered by the PMC when dress for such functions is other than normal dress regulations; and
- Items of clothing that are nor allowed at any time are as follows:
- No head dress; including ball caps, burrets
- Tank tops (ripped or sleeveless t-shirts, or muscle shirts)
- Offensive graffiti shirts
- Sandals, or thongs, or similar style footwear with out socks
- Shorts; other than one with pockets (ie Bermuda style)
- Cut-offs
- Coveralls; BATUS personnel clean and presentable working dress exempt
- Sporting attire; PT gear, track suits
- NO spandex or lycra shorts or leggings

Mess Bills
Each member of the Mess will be charged monthly Mess charges to offset the normal operating expenditures of the Mess. The rate of charges are decided upon at a General or Extra Ordinary Mess Meeting. Collection of Mess dues for Canadian Armed Forces is via Acquittance Roll. All other members must make payments to office staff during operating hours.

Associate members pay following a 'vote' by regular members.
Payable in full April 1st yearly.
The NPF Statement of Account may include all charges linked to any PSP program and Canex. The Mess portion of your bill is payable in the office during regular business hours only.

Answers to FAQs
****Please note that infractions to any of the rules below will be reported as an incident to the PMC & Base Commander and dealt with accordingly.****
- No outside drinks are allowed to be brought into the Mess.
- All drinks must be opened before given to patrons.
- No drinks purchased in the Mess are allowed to be taken out beyond the fenced area of the JRC Mess grounds. They must be consumed here, or left behind.
- Bartenders must NOT sell or give liquor to an intoxicated person.
- No one is authorized to give alcohol to someone who has been cut off by a staff member. Doing so will result in the provider/group being cut off as well, and/or removed from the bar.
- The number and size of drinks that can be sold to a patron during last call is limited to two standard servings per order – one standard serving being defined as one ounce of distilled spirit or one bottle or can of beer.
- Possession of more than two drinks after last call in a licensed establishment is prohibited.
- Patrons will be given 30 minutes to consume their beverages after closing time and then asked to vacate the building.
- No drinks are allowed in the parking lot area. This area is not licensed. Violators can face a minimum fine of $115.00.
- The designated smoking area is on the patio only.
- No Senior Ranks are allowed into the JRC Mess without prior approval from the Base Commander at least 48 hours before the visit. The request must be submitted via the PMC.
