Who should I contact if I have any questions about the grant?
General inquiries and suggestions about the grant can be directed to Frank Boyer – CAF Sport Program & Project Coordinator (HQ).

Can I apply multiple times within the same year?
Yes. However only one (1) application per FAC member will be supported financially for FY24-25.
A CAF member cannot be supported financially at the local level and then be supported financially for another application at the provincial or national level -

Who can provide financial support?
Local Bases and Wings Sport departments, Unit and Chain of Commands are encouraged to augment financial support of sport participation to CAF members with local public funds (over and above what is provided by CAF Sports HQ).

Can I be on leave and request support through the Support to Sports Participation Grant ?
No. Members must be considered on duty in order to benefit from the Support to Sports Participation Grant as per DAOD 5045-1, Canadian Armed Forces Sports Program - Canada.ca

Can I apply for support through the Support to Sports Participation Grant to cover expenses for attending CAF Regionals/National Championship or CISM Sport events?
No.

Does the Out Service Request Program still exist?
No. As of March 31, 2024, the Out Service Request Program is no longer available. As of September 26 2024, the Support to Sports Participation Grant as replaced the Out Service Request Program.
If you have already received approval for an Out Service Request, CAF Sports will honor this approval and funding (if funded). No further action is needed. -
How far in advance should I apply for the Support to Sports Participation Grant
Applicants must complete and submit the application form thirty (30) days in advance of their event/course. Application submitted within 30 days of the event commencing will still be considered for support however, we cannot guarantee it will be process due to administrative process and level of approval. We recommend that you plan and submit your request in advance!

Can I submit an application if have already attended the event or course?
Yes. If you have already attended the event or course you are able to submit an application within one month after event or course have been completed. Prior to submitting an application, contact your local B/W Sport Coordinator to ensure you have the required justification and approval from your CoC (i.e. on duty, approval to participate).

Does submitting an application guarantee that I will receive a grant?
No. The Support to Sports Participation Grant program is likely to be oversubscribed with a large number of applicants each year. We hope that we can support as many CAF members as possible and demonstrate the need for additional resources and funds for future year.

What should I do if I can no longer attend the event/course I was approved for?
If your circumstance change and you are no longer able to attend the event/course please inform your local B/W’s CAF Sport Coordinator as soon as possible.

What can the grant be used for?
If approved, you can use the grant on some of the associated costs for you to attend your event/course.
- Competition entry fee / Course fee (coaches or officials)
- Local support for local community league fees
- Transport cost (airfare, gas, car rental)
- Accommodation
- Meal
- Certification / Qualification/License
- Professional Development (Conference / Workshops)

Why is the grant available only for athletes, coaches and officials?
The Support to Sports Participation Grant is designed to support sportspeople and ease the financial pressures for CAF members to be involved within the sports community.
With limited funding the CAF Sport HQ office made the difficult decision to support these role for FY 24-25. Support for Athletic Trainers remain available via the Canadian Armed Forces Athletic Trainer Program (CAFATP). -

What determines where the money funding comes from: location of the sport or level of the sports?
The location of the sports determine who can provide financial support through the Support to Sports Participation Grant.
- Local: means a CAF members travelling locally within 100 kms of the member’s province of residence.
- Provincial: means a CAF member travelling more than 100 km within the member’s province of residence
- National: means a CAF member traveling nationally (i.e. outside of their province but within Canada)
- International: means a CAF member travelling internationally (i.e. outside of Canada). Currently international request may only be approved without funding.
