Mental Health Support for Military Families in Petawawa
The PMFRC Mental Health Team offers confidential counselling for individuals, couples, families, children and teens from Military families. Our team of mental health practitioners can support your family with a variety of challenges, including:

Appointments with the PMFRC Mental Health Team are offered in person at the PMFRC Family Wellness Centre at 12 Reichwald Crescent on the North Side or virtually over video chat (via Zoom) and by phone. Single sessions are available, and same-day appointments can be arranged.

The PMFRC Mental Health Team has two Family Liaison Officers (FLOs) in Petawawa who support the families of ill and injured CAF members (Regular Force and Reservists) as well as the families of the fallen. Additionally, FLOs assist the families of medically released Veterans and their survivors. The FLO positions are filled by Registered Social Workers (RSW) or Registered Psychotherapists (RP), and they are embedded full-time at the Transition Centre. They provide a supportive, confidential environment where families can discuss their unique situations. FLOs work closely with each family to develop a personalized plan that may include support, advocacy, referrals, and psychotherapy.

Are counselling services available in English and French?
Currently, we offer Mental Health services primarily in English. We have limited availability of Mental Health services in French.

Can the PMFRC Mental Health Team provide an official medical diagnosis or prescription for medication?
The PMFRC Mental Health team cannot provide an official medical diagnosis or medication prescriptions. The Mental Health team provides counselling / psychotherapy services for Military families to address various issues and challenges.

Is there any cost for services?
No, there is no cost for these services for Military families.

How can I attend an appointment if I don’t have a car or don’t have child care? Can I bring my child to the appointment, or can they wait in the waiting room?
Virtual and phone appointments are available if you do not have transportation. During your intake, the Military Family Navigator – Mental Health can help you choose the type of session that best suits your needs.
Unfortunately, the PMFRC Family Wellness Centre at 12 Reichwald Crescent on the North Side has no designation for child care or has certified staff to look after your children while you are in your appointment. If you need child care to attend a mental health appointment, contact North Side Child Care. -
Are dual-service Military couples eligible for couples counselling with the PMFRC?
Dual-service Military couples can access Base mental health services for couples counselling. However, under certain circumstances, we are able to make an exception and offer services for dual-service Military couples.
