Prepare & Move

Living in Europe can be an amazing, rewarding and life-changing experience. You will have opportunities to embrace different cultures, visit new places and meet new people. At the same time, it can sometimes be frustrating, challenging, and even a little difficult. Along the way, you may find that you need some support. Military Family Services Europe is here for you.

We understand the military lifestyle. We understand families.  Most importantly, we understand postings to Europe. Whether you have children or don’t, are ‘empty-nesters’, a dual service couple or single, no matter what your family dynamic, we are here to support you.

We have welcome packages that have been prepared with information specific to your location as well as our locations Handbook, which contains vital information about your community. We host information briefings and welcome events. We will provide you with opportunities to meet or connect with other military family members. And that’s just the beginning.

If you are considering a posting to Europe or preparing for an upcoming move? Here are a few tips to get you started:

  1. Connect with the Military Family Services Staff responsible for your posting location. We have loads of information to share and can help answer questions about the services and resources available for families in the region.
  2. Depending on your location, employment opportunities can be extremely limited in Europe. Be prepared that it may not be possible for spouses/partners to work during your family's time abroad.
  3. If you are moving with children, find out how this will impact their education by contacting Children’s Education Management. Expect things to be different!
  4. Prepare your family by taking a moment to visit MFS(E)’s YouTube Channel and listen to the information brief from our social worker. This video touches on some of the challenges and culture shock that families may experience.
