About Comox Valley

The Comox Valley is situated on the east coast of Central Vancouver Island. The Comox Valley stretches from Fanny Bay to the south and Saratoga beach to the north. It includes the communities of the City of Courtenay, the Town of Comox and the Village of Cumberland. The Comox Valley enjoys mild winters with little to no snow and a long growing season with more sunshine than most areas in B.C. You can enjoy year round outdoor recreational activities like hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, camping, biking, boating, swimming and golfing. Where else can you play a round of golf in the morning, take a swim in the ocean before lunch and go skiing in the afternoon?

Comox has a thriving downtown offering shops to suit just about everyone. With panoramic views of Comox Harbour and the Comox Glacier, it is certainly one of the most beautiful towns on Vancouver Island. Comox consists primarily of residential family neighbourhoods and well-maintained parks. Comox has grown considerably due to a strong boost in tourism. The population of Comox is approximately 14 806 based on the 2021 census. Located to the north east of Courtenay, Comox is a thriving town, and home to the annual Filberg Festival and Comox Nautical Days.
Courtenay, population 28,420 (2021), is situated in the heart of the Comox Valley. Surrounded by nature, recreation, and a growing local food movement, Courtenay hosts a wide range of retail and commercial businesses, from intimate specialty shops and restaurants to hotels and big box stores. The downtown core including 4th, 5th, and 6th Streets is one of the most vibrant shopping districts on Vancouver Island, with a variety of independent shops and restaurants. Other highlights include major cultural facilities such as the Courtenay Museum and Paleontology Centre, the Comox Valley Art Gallery, and the Sid Williams Theatre. Downtown Courtenay is also just steps away from Lewis and Simms Parks, the scenic waterfront Riverway Trail, and the Puntledge River.
Cumberland currently has a population of approximately 4447 (based on the 2021 Census). Cumberland consists primarily of residential neighbourhoods, however its downtown core along Dunsmuir Avenue is teeming with specialty shops, restaurants and cafes. For the mountain bikers out there, Cumberland has a vast trail system suitable for extreme riders. You can find moderate to easy trails along the old rail heading towards Comox Lake. Comox Lake is a short five minute drive from downtown Cumberland and offers boating, fishing, swimming, and other recreational opportunities. It is also the primary water source for most of Courtenay and Comox.
