This year, the Recreation Department is innovating once again by offering young people aged 13 to 16 a unique experience in the PAM* Program (Programme d'Aspirant-Moniteur).
The Aspiring Counselor program is a comprehensive training program that prepares teens for their future role as camp counselors. This 200-hour theoretical and practical training program is spread over the summer day camp period. It will enable young people aged 13 to 16 to experience day camp without assuming full responsibility, just like a camp counselor. Paired with a more experienced counselor, aspiring counselors will be called upon to lead part of the day's activities with the counselor's support. In a way, it's a practical training school for the job of animator.
Here's an overview of what the program has to offer;
- Animation from A to Z: How to animate preschool and school-age children (ages 4 to 12)
- How to choose the right activities
- How to communicate well with children
- What are the responsibilities of presenters?
- Preventing risks and ensuring children's safety
- Teamwork skills
- First aid techniques
- Take charge of groups and organize activities
- HIGH FIVE certified training recognized nationally (Canada)
- After a second year with us, the DAFA (Diplôme d'aptitudes aux Fonctions d'animateurs) certification is recognized at the provincial level.
- Certified first-aid training

*This program, although recognized by the Association des camps du Québec, is not overseen by the latter in our organization. Supervision and evaluation are therefore based on the experience and knowledge of the Saint-Jean Garrison's animation and recreation teams. However, our training courses are recognized throughout the province.
