Welcome Packages

The Gander MFRC offers an awesome welcome package in the form of a "Welcome Bucket". Once you have officially cleared into the MFRC, you will be notified to come by the centre to pick up your Welcome Bucket and meet the MFRC team.

Posted to Gander this Year?

Gander, Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) is designated as a semi-isolated posting. This designation indicates that the location may not be suitable for all members or their families. Consequently, individuals must undergo a screening process to determine their suitability for this posting. To illustrate, consider a family with children requiring regular visits to a particular specialist. This specialist may only be available 3.5 hours away in St. John's. It is not desirable for families to be compelled to utilize our transportation infrastructure for medical necessities when more appropriate and adequate resources are available in other regions.

Screening Package

During the screening process, an email is sent to Kellie Fudge, the Community Integration and Referral Navigator at the Gander Military Family Resource Centre. Kellie will then contact the member to offer an electronic Screening Package. This package includes a list of community activities and volunteer services, a frequently asked questions section, a map of the 9 Wing base, and a map illustrating the allotted geographical boundaries when purchasing a home. This facilitates an open dialogue between the member (and their family) and a representative of their new community. The member and their family can contact this representative via phone or email with any questions or concerns before their arrival, which can alleviate any additional stress during their move.

Posting Package

After a member has successfully completed the screening process and their posting has been confirmed, an email will be sent to Kellie Fudge who will then send an electronic posting package to the new member/family. This package will contain information about programs and services, as well as general information about the Town of Gander such as:

  • An arrivals check list.
  • A list of community activities and organizations.
  • A list of childcare options.
  • The Provincial Health Care (MCP) registration form.
  • A map of the designated wing geographical area for residency.
  • BMO Banking information specialized for military members and their families.
  • Vehicle Registration Information
  • Frequently Asked Questions
  • An application package for the position on the GMFRC Board.
  • How to find a family doctor and options for while you are waiting.
