  • Layoff
  • Leave of Absence (i.e. Maternity, Compassionate Care, etc.)

Compensation

NPF strives to pay employees equitably and fairly based on internal equity.

Pay grid outlines the salary ranges or lock-step increments for all the jobs within a job category. Each pay grid is divided into pay bands, and jobs within the job category are each assigned to a pay band within the pay grid.

Pay band is a salary level within a pay grid. Each pay band has its own salary range or lock-step increments and every job is assigned to a pay band within the pay grid for his/her job category.

The compensation is:

  • Negotiated between the Employer and the Bargaining Agent for unionized employees. Refer to your Collective Agreement for more information.
  • Determined by the CEO of the Staff of the Non-Public Funds, Canadian Forces. Refer to the Compensation policy available in the NPF HRPOL Manual.

Compensation Review

As you know, we have been reviewing our Compensation Program, including both salary and non-salary components, to ensure that we continue to attract, retain and recognize our employees in a way that is fair, transparent and affordable. Over the last year, the HR Compensation team conducted significant research, market analysis and stakeholder consultation (including the Employee engagement survey), and we have now identified those critical and priority areas where change is needed, and have established a way ahead.

Some of the changes and additions include:

An additional day of paid leave for full-time non-unionised CAT I and CAT II employees which will be referred to as a Personal Day;

  • The ability to use one of your family-related leave days as Personal Emergency Leave; and
  • An extension of the current Leave Without Pay (LWOP) period from 12 months to 24 months.
  • The CAT II Compensation Review project.
