Mental Health Support Services

At the Comox MFRC we understand that military and veteran families experience both unique opportunities and challenges that set them apart from other families; such as frequent relocations, deployments or work-related absences and transitions. These stressors can significantly impact the mental health of military families. Sometimes the challenges can seem too big to deal with alone. There are times when the support of family and friends is often enough, other times, you need more. The CMFRC Mental Health Team is here for you !

Our Mental Health Department is staffed by a team of highly skilled professionals. The team, which includes a Registered Clinical Counselor (RCC) and a Social Worker (RSW), offers a comprehensive range of free support services to Military and Veteran families. Their expertise and understanding make them a valuable resource. These services are available completely free of charge, to the families* of CAF members (regular or reserve) and Veterans.

Our team is equipped to assist families in all phases of the member's recovery, rehabilitation, and reintegration, regardless of whether the member is returning to service or transitioning through the release process. They provide support to the entire family during deployments, work-related absences, transitions, and everyday challenges.

The services they offer include short-term counselling for families, couples, adults & children, referrals to mental health services for adults and children, access to education and prevention-based programs, short-term individual or group support for families of ill, injured, or deceased members, outreach and support to families in the surrounding area, and tailored assistance to families of the fallen.

In any given year, 1 in 5 people in Canada will personally experience a mental health problem or illness (CMHA, 2024). You're not alone. Help is available. So, if you're feeling overwhelmed or unsure where to turn next, don't hesitate to reach out – the Comox MFRC is here for you.

Family members include the spouses / partners, children, parents, relatives of significance, or people who self-identify as that member's family.
