Frequently Asked Questions
-
How young do you take children?
We can take children as young as 6 weeks, providing we have care providers who can accommodate that age.
-
What happens if my care provider is posted or stops providing care?
You will be placed on the priority list if a spot is not immediately available in another home.
-
If I accept a Private Home Day Care space, does that affect my place on Lil' Troopers waitlist?
It affects your position on the waitlist positively, as you will be moved to a priority space.
-
Can I reserve a spot for my new baby in the same provider as my older child?
Your new baby will be moved to the priority list with your current caregiver as long as your older child is in care. If space comes available at the same home when care is needed, you will get a spot there.
-
What screening is done on the providers before opening?
We require a Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check and Family & Children Services Checks from all care providers, their spouse and anyone in the home over the age of 18. The Fire department will also conduct an inspection of the home annually. If the care provider has pets, we require proof of rabies vaccination and a health inspection by either the Renfrew County District Health Unit or PMED. We also require care providers to have completed First Aid, CPR and Safe Food Handling courses. The provider must also add child care liability to their home insurance policy which specifies how many children they can care for. Licensed Private Home Day Cares can have up to 6 children, including their own, under 4 years.
