Leaders in Training Program

A FREE hands-on program designed to teach youth valuable leadership skills as well as allow them to gain volunteer experience with PSP Community Recreation Camps.

AGES 14+

Our Youth 1st Centre provides a fun and engaging volunteer program for teens looking to expand their knowledge and experience in recreation. The LIT program is hands-on and provides youth with the opportunity for on-the-job training. Youth will get to be a part of the preparation, planning and facilitation of Kidz 1st programs.

This volunteer opportunity counts towards your high school volunteer hours, but we know you will gain much more than just that! We equip our LIT’s with the skills and HIGH FIVE certification they need to have a competitive edge in a future employment opportunity with PSP Community Recreation.

Expectations for LITs

1.  All LITs are required to complete a free HIGH FIVE- Principles of Healthy Child Development Training.

2. All LITs are required to volunteer for a minimum of 40hrs.

3. LITs will meet on Mondays from 6-8pm at the South Side Community Centre to help prepare and organize activities and crafts for Kidz 1st programs and complete minor cleaning tasks. Paper copies of the meeting schedule will be provided to LITs at the meeting. Digital copies of the meeting schedule will be provided via email.

4.When LITs are hands-on in Kidz 1st programming, they will be assigned a Recreation Leader. Recreation Leaders are required to help foster leadership skills and take on a mentoring role with LITs. Recreation Leaders will provide feedback on LITs level of involvement and performance to the supervisor.
