PEI MFRC Bursary

The PEI MFRC is committed to supporting the Military and RCMP community and their families by offering financial assistance for post-secondary education. Bursaries are non-repayable and are given to help offset financial cost of post-secondary  education.

DEADLINE: Friday May 31st at 4pm

When funding exists, two Bursaries of $500.00 will be issued annually; one for the September semester and one for January semester. Availability of funding will be decided by the Board of Directors during the March monthly meetings. These bursaries will offer an opportunity for PEI MFRC community members to further their educational goals. Bursaries may be offered at any stage of a post-secondary program and will be awarded on objective and non-discriminatory basis by a selection committee as appointed by the Board of Directors on an annual basis.

Eligibility Requirements

a. Must be a member of PEI MFRC community as defined in bylaws, which includes:

  • spouses and children of current serving members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) or the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP);
  • Military Veterans and their spouses and children; and
  • RCMP Veterans and their spouses and children; and

b. Must have been accepted for full-time or part-time post-secondary studies in an accredited academic institution, a career college, or a vocational college, and intend on completing the program.

Restrictions on Eligibility

a. Currently serving members of the CAF and RCMP are not eligible for bursaries under this program;

b. Officers, staff, and directors of the MFRC, and their direct family members, are not eligible for bursaries under this program;

c. Major contributors to the MFRC, and their direct family members, are not eligible for bursaries under this program;

d. Members of the selection committee, and their relatives and close personal friends, are not eligible for bursaries under this program;

e. Members who are in receipt of the Veteran Affairs Rehabilitation and Vocational Assistance program are not eligible for bursaries under this program; 

f. Members who are in receipt of the Veteran Affairs Education and Training Benefit are not eligible for bursaries under this program; and

g. Previous recipients of this program are not eligible for subsequent bursaries under this program.

Instructions for Applicants

Please read eligibility requirements carefully prior to submitting an application in order to ensure you qualify as a candidate. The primary considerations in the selection process are volunteer service and connection to the CAF or RCMP community. Applications are to be submitted to the MFRC by the established deadline by emailing [email protected]. Applications be submitted in Word or PDFformat and should consist of:

a. An 800-word (maximum) essay describing your connection to military or police life, how it shaped you and how you want to achieve future plans, and goals; This should be entirely written by the candidate without the help of Artificial Intelligence. If AI is detected the application will be disqualified; and

b. Proof of enrollment (letter of acceptance may also be considered) from academic institution to include program, length and start date;

c. A point form list of volunteer/civic engagement activities with a short description of each; and

d. A letter of reference that you feel most accurately and wholly attest to your character, volunteer service, and academic commitment. Maximum one page to include their name and current contact information for reference; Please note that for the purpose of this bursary application, your reference may not be a familymember.

Payment

Bursaries under this program may be paid directly to the successful applicant’s education institution. Any bursary given directly to an individual student must meet special rules, so the money does not count as taxable income for them. The student will have to verify that the bursary is spent only on tuition, fees, or supplies.
