To ensure the most accurate and repeatable results on an InBody 380, it is essential to minimize variables that affect body water and conductance. For the most reliable data, follow these pre-test guidelines:
Preparation Timing- Fast for at least 3 to 4 hours: Food and liquid intake can be interpreted as fat or lean mass depending on where it is in the digestive tract.
- Test in the morning: Testing at the same time of day—ideally before breakfast—is the gold standard for tracking long-term trends.
- Use the bathroom: Ensure your bladder is empty immediately before the test.
Activity & Physical State
- Avoid exercise for 6 to 12 hours: Increased blood flow and dehydration following a workout significantly alter impedance.
- Avoid heat exposure: Do not use a sauna, steam room, or take a hot shower immediately before weighing in, as these affect skin temperature and hydration levels.
- Stand upright: Stand for at least 5 minutes before the test to allow body fluids to distribute evenly throughout the limbs.
Environmental & Physical Factors
- Wipe hands and feet: Use the InBody tissue (or a damp cloth) to improve the conductivity between your skin and the electrodes.
- Remove heavy items: Take off jewelry, watches, and heavy clothing. Wear light, consistent clothing for every weigh-in.
- Maintain a "Normal" Temperature: Testing in a very cold or very hot room can cause the body to shift blood flow, which may skew the results.
Contraindications
IMPORTANT Individuals with cardiac pacemakers or other internal electronic medical devices should not use the InBody 380. Additionally, results may not be accurate for individuals who are pregnant or currently menstruating due to significant shifts in water retention. The Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) method does not harm the human body because it uses micro alternative currents. However, if you are pregnant, please consult your doctor or specialist.
