Counsellor in Training & Adventure Camps

Boost your confidence, gain valuable leadership skills and meet new friends. PSP Recreation’s Counsellor-in-Training camp and Adventure camp will prepare you for real-life scenarios and summer camp work environments focusing on the education and recreation fields; teamwork, conflict resolution, communication, working with children and program planning and facilitation.

Open to youth between the ages of 12 to 14 years old.

Location: Uplands Military Community Centre 200 DeNiverville, Gloucester

Counsellor in Training

This two-week program gives participants a week in a class setting learning the skills required to be a camp counsellor followed by a week in a real-life camp environment! By the end of the two weeks, your camper can graduate to be a Junior Recreation Leader!

A Counsellor in Training is

• An energetic and positive person
• Someone who wants to work with kids or who is interested in working in recreation or education
• Eager to learn and mature

In PSP Recreation’s Counsellor-in-Training camp, participants will:

• Learn valuable leadership skills and how to work in a team setting
• Get a sneak peek into how to run programming geared towards children
• Learn how to plan and facilitate recreation programs and activities
• Get first-hand experience in being a camp counsellor

• Session 1 July 7 - July 18
• Session 2 July 21 – August 1

Adventure Camp

At our adventure camp, campers will plan their over two night stay at Sleepy Cedar Campground. Campers will learn to plan their own itinerary of activities, plan their packing lists, plan their menu all while working in a budget! Campers will spent the first two days at Uplands working together to organize their stay and spend Wednesday and Thursday night on their trip! Campers will return to Uplands Military Community Centre Friday late morning.

Campers in adventure camp will:

• Learn valuable leadership skills
• Work in a team setting planning and organizing activities
• Get participate in a fun overnight outing.

Dates:

• Session 1 August 11 - 15
• Session 2 August 18 - 22
