Resources you can explore in your community

TALK TO THE PEOPLE YOU KNOW
  • Consult members of your immediate or extended family.
  • Consult the people in charge of your children’s full-time daycare. They may be able to recommend other daycare providers or managers who are willing to provide that type of care.
  • Look in your neighbourhood: a neighbour, a close friend, the mothers of your children’s friends.

MAKE USE OF RESOURCES IN YOUR MUNICIPALITY
  • Check what emergency or family crisis services your CLSC offers families.
  • Call the local “Maison de la famille.” If the organization itself is unable to help, it will certainly be able to tell you about the options available in your area!
  • Do an Internet search for organizations offering respite in your area (some suggestions below).
  • Check your municipality’s website for information about family and children’s services.

Finding a babysitter or chilcare service

Finding a babysitter or childcare service
  • Ask the MFRC for our list of babysitters for the Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu and Saint-Hubert areas.
  • Contact your local city hall; some keep lists of babysitters.
  • Contact community organizations in your municipality. Some offer the babysitting course and have a list of candidates.
  • Visit businesses in your area where service advertisements are posted. Post a job offer.
  • In your neighbourhood, ads for services are posted on mailboxes. Post a job offer.
  • Ask your neighbours, co-workers, people you meet, if they can refer you to their babysitters.

Financial support for childcare

Have you heard about family care assistance (FCA)?

“Administered by the local level units, the FCA is an allowance designed to help parents who are alone and CF military couples deal with increases in family care costs when service needs require them to be absent from their parent unit for 24 hours or more.”

Members can contact their Orderly Room to take advantage of this service.

Revenu Québec

Families in Quebec that do not use subsidized daycare are entitled to a provincial income tax credit. You can apply for the tax credit when you file your income tax return or by advance payment.

Receipts for childcare expenses may also be used to get a federal tax deduction for childcare expenses.

The childcare service provider must provide receipts for childcare expenses. A non-subsidized private facility must include its establishment number on the receipt, and a non-subsidized home childcare provider must include his/her social insurance number.

Visit the website:
www.revenu.gouv.qc.ca.

Canada Revenue Agency

In addition to the allowable childcare expense deduction, the federal government offers financial assistance of $60 to $160 per month, depending on the age of the children, called the Canada Child Benefit (CCB).

The documents can be viewed online at http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca.

Drop-in childcare service

The MFRC can provide drop-in daycare service at its facility when requested. All drop-in childcare services require advance registration, which means that people who want to use the service must register at info.crfm@forces.gc.ca. Availability of the service depends on a number of factors. The Childhood Services Coordinator will let you know whether the service is available.

During unit activities and presentations for military families, we can provide a mobile childcare service at your office. Send your request to the Childhood Services Coordinator at least one month in advance. He/she will be able to assess the feasibility of offering the mobile childcare service at your offices. Our daycare staff can go to your offices with appropriate materials for the agreed amount of time. This service also requires advance registration, which means that people who want to use the service must register at info.crfm@forces.gc.ca.

Childhood Services offers an educational workshop program for children using the drop-in daycare centre in the morning. Youth Services offers training for kids aged 10 to 17. The purpose of the workshops and training is to foster their development in a number of ways.

Resources you can explore in your community

USE YOUR NETWORK OF PEOPLE

USE THE RESOURCES IN YOUR MUNICIPALITY

  • Ask your CLSC about the services offered to families in case of an emergency or a family crisis.
