Closure of 14 Wing’s Greenwood Gardens Arena

23 July, 2026 – Greenwood, N.S. – National Defence / Canadian Armed Forces

Effective immediately, 14 Wing Greenwood will be closing the Greenwood Gardens arena for the 2026/2027 operating season.

In accordance with federal regulations, 14 Wing Greenwood conducts annual assessments of their buildings identified as having asbestos-containing materials. Recent environmental samplings within the arena have identified settled asbestos dust and settled lead dust.

Closure of the building is being undertaken out of an abundance of caution. This measure limits the potential for exposure to hazardous materials while remediation and follow-on testing are completed.

Community members and parties are asked to make alternate arrangements for ice operations for the 2026/2027 season.

14 Wing understands that the arena’s closure will disrupt the public’s access to valued programs and recreational services. Their priority is to protect the safety and well-being of both its personnel and the members of the community.

More specific information about what the public can expect throughout site preparation and construction will be shared with the community through local channels, when available.
