The Nation's Capital
Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States, is a fascinating city unlike any other. Situated on the east coast, nestled between Maryland and Virginia, it’s not part of any state but is a federal district governed directly by the U.S. Congress. This unique status sets the stage for its role as the nation’s political and cultural heart.
The city is home to more than 70 museums and hundreds of landmarks, making it a treasure trove for history buffs, art lovers, and curious travelers alike. At the center of it all is the National Mall, often called “America’s Front Yard.” This expansive two-mile park stretches from the U.S. Capitol Building to the Lincoln Memorial while hosting many other iconic stops along the way, including the White House, the Washington Monument, and the Tidal Basin — renowned for its spectacular cherry blossoms every spring.
While only a handful of our folks actually live in D.C., roughly 265+ people work at the Embassy of Canada, the only Embassy between Capitol Hill and the White House located on Pennsylvania Avenue — A symbol of the close bilateral relationship.
But the Canadian Embassy offers more than just diplomatic services! It also reflects the values Canadians hold dear.
Did you know? The Embassy features a rooftop garden that brings a touch of nature to the urban landscape, two active beehives home to roughly 40,000 bees, and an impressive art gallery showcasing Canadian artists and exhibitions. These unique elements reflect Canada’s commitment to sustainability, culture, and innovation.
