PSP Short-Term Lodging

The MFS-NCR, PSP Recreation, PSP Military Housing and CFSG(O-G)’s Chaplain Services, under the auspices of the Commandant of CFSG(O-G), have partnered to provide the NCR with Short-Term Lodging Services. 

This program is designed to meet the temporary accommodation needs of military members and their families within the NCR.


Purpose of the Short-Term Lodging Unit

The purpose of short-term lodging services is to provide temporary support for housing military members and/or their families in crisis, those requiring accessible accommodations for local specialists/medical appointments, those with visitation rights or imposed restriction visitation, short-term housing for military members and their families unable to stay in their own homes due to flooding, fires, and/or extensive and unforeseen renovations.


Specifics about the program

The maximum stay, upon initial assessment and referral by the MFS-NCR and/or CFSU(O) Chaplains is seven nights. Should an extension be requested, the request would need to be received by MFS-NCR, Monday to Friday from 0800 to 1600hrs, by phone at 613-998-4888 or by email at [email protected]. Requests can also be received by CFSG(O-G) Duty Chaplain, Monday to Friday from 1601 to 0759hrs and on Saturdays, Sundays and statutory holidays, via the Military Police at 613-820-0123. Decisions regarding extensions will be made within 36 hours of a request. This program is offered as part of a collaborative partnership with PSP Ottawa-Gatineau and is a courtesy extended by the Commandant CFSG (O-G).

Occupancy of the Emergency Family Housing Unit is granted solely by approval from the MFS-NCR Family Crisis Team or Chaplain Services and requires a $150 deposit. Occupancy is based on the following four priority levels:

  • Priority One
    Current Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) member and/or their families who are 
    posted to and reside in the NCR.
    • A sudden, unexpected, and catastrophic event such as, but not limited to, circumstances involving a fire, flood, or other “act of god” situation; a medical emergency/situation; or any other such critical requirement which can be met within the limitations of this service.

    Costs related to Priority One situations will be $65.00/night plus applicable taxes. Requests for financial support may be made to the MFS-NCR.

  • Priority Two 
    Current CAF member and/or their families who are posted to and reside outside  the NCR (OR) those in the NCR who require temporary relocation due to complex scenarios. 
    • A medical service within the NCR requiring accessible accommodation for the purpose of visiting and/or to provide care and support; temporary housing required to support complex family environments; or an emergency or other such critical requirement which can be met within the limitations of the service.

    Costs related to Priority Two situations will be $65/night plus applicable taxes. Requests for financial support may be made to the MFS-NCR.

  • Priority Three 

    Current IR and/or estranged CAF families.

    • CAF families experiencing separation related to IR or custody arrangements where accessible accommodation within the NCR is required for the purpose of visitation. 

    Costs related to Priority Three situations will be $65/night plus applicable taxes.

  • Non-Priority Requests

    In response to visitation needs given availability and subject to bumping rights created by higher priority requests, CAF members and/or their families may request short-term lodging to support their immediate needs at a cost of $110.00/night plus applicable taxes.

    NOTE: Short-term lodging is not designated for Protection Housing against domestic violence and will not be used for such situations given that the security and safety of clients cannot be guaranteed.  All such requests will be referred to domestic violence shelters/services provided by suitable organizations within the NCR.

Referrals

CAF families in need may be referred to MFS-NCR Social Worker or CFSG(O-G) Chaplain Services by: 

  • Commandant CFSG(O-G), MFS-NCR staff members, Chaplain Services, Base Medical personnel, Base Duty Officer, JPSU/IPSC, Military Police, or Base Administration Branch; 
  • Local Unit or Supervisor; 
  • CAF member or family member; and 
  • Community Agencies serving CAF members and their families. 

Once a referral has been received, a member of the MFS-NCR Family Crisis Team or the Chaplain Services, designated to determine the appropriateness of the referral, will conduct an evaluation of need and if approved, the length of stay required and appropriate priority level.
