Military life can mean time apart and sometimes, getting out, doing something together, and connecting with people who understand can make a difference.
Home Front Connections: Special Events bring military-connected individuals and families together for occasional activities designed around connection, practical resources, and the everyday realities that can come with a CAF-related absence.
Whether you are preparing for time apart, currently navigating an absence, or adjusting to having your CAF member home again, you are welcome.
Wherever You Are in the Absence
Every period of time apart can look different.
You may be:
- preparing for someone to leave;
- adjusting to new routines while they are away;
- managing more responsibilities at home;
- helping children through the change;
- looking for practical information or resources;
- missing connection with people who understand;
- or figuring out what life looks like now that they are home again.
You do not need to have everything figured out before joining us.
Bring the Family — or a Friend
Children are welcome to participate alongside their parent or guardian. If you don’t have children attending, you’re welcome to bring a friend along with you.
Age-appropriate activities will be available so families can spend time together while also connecting with others who understand some of the realities that come with military life.
Parents and guardians remain responsible for their children throughout the event.
Looking for Ongoing Connection?
Home Front Connections also meets every second Tuesday from 6:00–7:00 p.m., with the option to join in person at the KMFRC or online through Microsoft Teams.
Come for the conversations that are useful to you, connect with others navigating time apart, and explore practical topics related to life before, during, and after a CAF-related absence.
Drop-ins are welcome, and registration is encouraged for planning and child minding.

Join us for a relaxed morning of board games, conversation, and connection!
Spend time with other military-connected families, discover resources that may be helpful during an absence, and enjoy an activity together in a welcoming, low-pressure environment.
You do not need to be experiencing a deployment to participate. CAF-related absences can include courses, exercises, taskings, restricted postings, deployments, and other periods of time away.
