CAF Sports Program – Way forward 2024-25

Fiscal challenges across the CAF, DND, and CFMWS are causing some programs to reprioritize and reprofile their activities to support higher-priority efforts, such as reconstitution.

The CAF Sports Program will be reducing its national and international programs in 2024-25, and scaling back on certain activities that require significant financial investments. Local and regional program development are being prioritized.

Doing so will allow us to focus on maintaining the grassroots portion of our allocation and prioritizing local and regional program development. It also means that we will continue with the CAF Sports Grant availability and expanded criteria allowing coaches and officials to apply as well.  

The benefits of the CAF Sports Program are not in question and are well understood by all. Our decision to scale back this year on certain activities, while disappointing, will allow us to work towards a steady-state program that is increasingly aligned with our CAF Sports Strategy objectives in 2025-26.

The following Nationals have been suspended for the 2024-25 fiscal year:
  • Badminton
  • Squash
  • Ball Hockey
  • Swimming
  • Men’s/Women’s Soccer
  • Old Timer’s Hockey

The following International Programs have been suspended for the 2024-25 fiscal year:
  • Shooting
  • Fencing 
  • Sailing

*All international programs have been reduced who do not currently have a CISM World Championship in 2024-25
