February 2022 - Bill Moore

After 32 years of service, Bill Moore has more than deserved to relax during his retirement, but that’s just not this military man’s style.

A former Chief Warrant Officer and a Captain in the reserves, Moore is a man who has always cared about people’s welfare.
Moore initially volunteered as a director for the PEI Military Family Resource Centre, but shortly after was asked if he would be willing to take over as board chair.

He accepted the new role and the additional responsibilities, taking on a project that would affect thousands of veterans and their families.

As a father of five children, Moore, who was often on deployment throughout his career, understood the importance the Military Family Resource Centre could have on military families and knew the current facility could be improved for those seeking support.

After three years of lobbying for greater resources, Moore, along with the help of others, was able to get the base commander to commit to a 10-year contract for a 4,200-square-foot facility. This was a huge improvement considering the previous centre had just 600 square feet of dedicated space within another building.

“It’s a cause that’s near and dear to my heart,” Moore says. “We needed our own space to make people feel comfortable and now more people are coming and we’ll be able to do a lot more.”

The Military Family Resource Centre provides an array of services, including access to social workers and emergency daycare, alongside holding a number of social events to help families connect with others.

“Bill really cares for the welfare of the members and their families,” says Leona Conrick, executive director of the PEI Military Family Resource Centre. “He saw how military family resource centres impacted his family when he was deployed so much and really still has the best interest of the member and their family at heart. He wants to make sure everyone is cared for.”

In addition to his work securing the new facility, Moore is an advocate for veterans and their families who may be suffering mentally, emotionally or physically.
