PSP Health Promotion Trenton is very happy to be able to provide Monthly Positive Space Ambassador Training to any member of the Canadian Armed Forces or employee of the Department of National Defense or civilian member of our Military community

What does a Positive Space Ambassador do?

Positive Space Ambassadors promote diversity awareness and inclusion with a focus on the 2SLGBTQI+ communities. We will look to you to speak openly and positively about gender and sexual diversity and provide assistance to others who are dealing with 2SLGBTQI+ related topics. You will also be encouraged to self-identify as a Positive Space Ambassador by wearing and/or posting identifiers to provide visibility.Positive Space Ambassadors are not counsellors or experts. They are peers committed to making the Defense Team a safer and more inclusive place for everyone. Ambassadors will need to balance their ambassador role with their work duties.

Why should you become an Ambassador?

As a Positive Space Ambassador, you will have the chance to learn about inclusivity, 2SLGBTQI+ topics, and promote and enable cultural growth within the Defense Team. You will also have the opportunity to hone your leadership skills and set a positive example for others. Many Ambassadors say they find the experience particularly rewarding because it offers them unique opportunities to connect with Defense Team colleagues on a personal level and to share their own experiences.

Course Overview

While much progress has been made, the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities still face challenges with heterosexism, genderism, transphobia and homophobia, which can lead to individuals feeling unsafe at work. This course explains what it means to be a Positive Space ambassador and prepares individuals to offer support to their colleagues as a Positive Space ambassador in the workplace. Through scenarios and practical exercises, participants will learn behaviors that can help bring diversity and inclusion into the modern workplace.
Topics include:
  • defining the role of a Positive Space ambassador
  • outlining helpful behaviors of ambassadors
  • reviewing different support methods
