Firefighter

As part of the National Defence Fire Service (NDFS), firefighters play a critical role in preventing the loss of life and property due to fire. They perform a wide range of duties, including aircraft rescue, structural and wildland firefighting, automobile extrication, hazardous materials response, and confined space or high-angle rescue. Their expertise also extends to fire investigation, fire prevention, and life safety inspections.

Firefighters provide 24-hour protection by working in rotating teams that share operational responsibilities across shifts. They are supported by day staff, including the Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Chief, and Fire Inspectors.

PSP, with the support of the Canadian Forces Fire Marshal (CFFM) Office, has developed a Firefighter Fitness and Wellness Program available to all Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and Department of National Defence (DND) firefighters. The program is designed to enhance firefighters’ health, job performance, and safety through physical fitness and a range of wellness initiatives.

Promoting the health and well-being of our firefighting teams is essential to maintaining their effectiveness, resilience, and operational readiness.
