2023 Quebec Regional Basketball Champions

Ottawa Nationals Men’s basketball team

By Lt(N) Cody Brown, team member

After getting the Ottawa Nationals Men’s basketball program back up and running following the lockdowns, the team held practice twice per week at CFS Leitrim in order to prepare for the Regional tournament. A team of 11 players from the NCR traveled together to St Jean, QC and competed against teams from Valcartier and Montreal over the course of four days.

In their first game, the Nationals took on Valcartier – a big, aggressive team who put up a tough fight but couldn’t stop the speed and quickness of the Nationals, who won 73-61. In their second game, Ottawa faced a large and experienced Montreal team, winning 86-55 and giving them a bye to the finals.

In the finals, Ottawa met Valcartier again who were coming off a big win in the semi finals. This game was back and forth, with Valcartier being up by two going into the fourth quarter – Ottawa’s first time trailing all tournament. But the team kept their composure and went on a run late in the fourth to pull away from Valcartier, and secure a 75-71 win, becoming the 2023 Quebec Regional Basketball Champions. The team is looking forward to competing at Nationals in May.
