• You have 30 days to register, license and insure your vehicle after arriving in B.C. New B.C. residents only need to provide proof of your years of driving experience – how long you’ve held a full driver’s licence. Proof of insurance is no longer required. To prove your previous driving experience for a new B.C. license, you need to book an appointment to visit an ICBC Driver Licensing office and bring proof of how long you’ve had a full driver’s license.

• DRIVER’S LICENSE

• You must switch to a B.C. driver's license within 90 days of moving. To be eligible for a full-privilege B.C. driver's license, you must have held a driver's license (not a learner's) for at least two years. Make sure you bring the right I.D. and documentation - acceptable forms are found online.

  B.C.'s graduated licensing program - Class 5

• Step 1: You can get your L (learner's) on or after your 16th birthday by taking a multiple choice knowledge test. 
• Step 2: You can get your N (novice) by taking a road test after having your L for at least 12 months and have stayed prohibition-free.
• Step 3: You can get your full class 5 licence by taking a road test once you've been a Novice driver for 24 consecutive months without any driving prohibition.
