Winnipeg MFRC leads the way with virtual DAG form at CFB Winnipeg

The Winnipeg Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) continues its innovative support of Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members and their families with the introduction of its fully virtual Deployment Assistance Group (DAG) form at CFB Winnipeg.

Developed as an MFRC-driven initiative through the innovative efforts of Shelley Dykeman, Deployment Coordinator, the digital DAG form modernises a previously paper-based, in-person process. It allows CAF members preparing for deployment to complete the required MFRC information at their convenience, reducing administrative burden while improving access to timely support.

Once submitted, the form is received in real time by Shelley, enabling the preparation of personalised information packages for members and their families ahead of their deployment meeting. These meetings, offered either in person or virtually, are designed to strengthen overall readiness and ensure families are well supported throughout the deployment cycle.

“The MFRC’s virtual DAG form is a great step forward in streamlining the process and helping ensure members connect with us earlier, allowing for more tailored and efficient support,” says Shelley.

This tool demonstrates the MFRC’s commitment to reducing barriers, improving service delivery, and enhancing the overall experience for military families.

While the initiative is led by the MFRC, its successful rollout reflects strong collaboration with partners at 17 Wing, including support from Corporal Shoemaker of 17 Mission Support Squadron (17 MSS) who helped integrate the form into their existing administrative processes. The form is now included in 17 MSS’s deployment-related communications and supported by on-site reminders, making it easier for members to engage with the MFRC early.

“I hope this change helps both the MFRC and the member have a smoother process. Thank you again for bringing up this idea,” Cpl Shoemaker adds.

This initiative highlights the strong collaboration between the Winnipeg  MFRC and 17  Wing in finding practical ways to improve support for CAF members and their families. The Winnipeg MFRC proudly recognises Shelley’s contributions and remains committed to expanding this spirit of innovation across all services.
