Building skills from within – introducing Samanta Dubois
The MFRC is pleased to introduce Samanta Dubois to our 17 Wing Community.
Effective August 14, Samanta has assumed the role of Child & Family Social Worker while Stefy Reed is on maternity leave.
Samanta holds a degree in Social Work from the Université de Saint-Boniface. She also has a certificate in Psychosocial Intervention from Université du Québec. Before joining our team, she had honed her skills by working in family support services for both government and non-government organizations. She also had a solid experience in early childhood education for five years.
With Samanta on our team, we can continue to offer our psychoeducation supports and services to our military and veteran families. She is originally from Montreal, Quebec, and her bilingual skills will allow us to serve our Francophone families better.
Our social work office has supported many military children, youth, adults, single individuals, couples, parents, and the entire family. We continue to encourage any individuals related to the CAF member to come see Samanta. We are dedicated to helping each family member to better cope with the military lifestyle challenges by offering mental health supports.
Samanta is skilled in providing addictions, disordered eating, suicide ideation, couples counselling, child observation and therapy, special needs, 2SLGBTQIA+, and family supports.
She will aim to relieve you of stress, anxiety, or depression or assist you in times of crisis. She plans to focus initially on healing from past trauma and breaking free from unhealthy patterns or limiting thoughts and behaviours.
She utilizes a collaborative and strength-based approach to meet her client's needs. She believes that people are the experts in their lives, as parents are the experts in their children.
She said, "I would like to be that 'other person' coaching you to look within yourself or your family. I would like to help you discover and build skills from within by giving you the tools you need to reach your full potential."
To build a trusting relationship with her clients, Samanta always aims to create a positive and safe space for them to be heard, seen and understood.
She recognizes that as military families are unique, what the MFRC offers is unlike any other.
She said, "It's a wrap-around service for the whole family. It lets us see and assist every family member or individual on all fronts, either as a child, a parent, or a partner. I'm privileged to be doing this work and to see lives changed because of what we do."
In her personal time, Samanta prioritizes self-care to be good at what she does. She makes it a habit to put in a CrossFit workout and to meditate every morning. She is a lifelong learner who enjoys reading and trying new things. She is also up for any adventures, of which riding a motorcycle, hiking, and camping are just a few of what she has been into.
Finally, she is greatly fulfilled in her work when clients embrace a tool that can transform their lives and relationships. She aims to give them at least one "aha moment" per session.
She said, "Just learning one thing from here, bringing it home, and putting it into daily practice will go a long way to becoming the best person you can be for your family."
