Surviving the Holidays Together

The holiday season is often described as a time of joy, laughter, and celebration. Yet for many CAF families, it can also bring unique challenges. Distance, deployments, and the weight of responsibilities can make this season feel heavy. But it is precisely in these moments that the strength of our community shines.

Surviving the holidays together is not about creating a picture-perfect celebration. It is about leaning on one another, finding comfort in connection, and cherishing the small, meaningful moments that remind us we are never alone. This holiday season, let us remember that joy is found not in perfection, but in presence. By sharing the load, reaching out when we need support, and celebrating even the smallest victories, we remind ourselves that together, we can weather anything.

There are simple ways to ease holiday stress. Keeping traditions simple and focusing on what matters most can bring peace. Sharing responsibilities lightens the load and makes space for joy. Taking time for yourself, even through a short walk or a quiet moment, can restore balance and help you feel grounded.

Connection is the greatest gift. A phone call, a shared meal, or a quiet evening together can mean more than any wrapped present. Resilience is our tradition. CAF families know how to adapt, how to support each other, and how to find light even in difficult times. Togetherness is our strength. Whether near or far, we carry each other through the season with compassion and care.

If you or your family are looking for support, the MFS NCR Mental Health Team is here to help. We provide short-term counselling that is sensitive to trauma and tailored to families, individuals, youth ages seven and older, and couples. Our team can also connect you with community resources, professional referrals, workshops, and support groups to ensure you feel supported during the holiday season and beyond.
