Change on the horizon

Dear Members,

These past two years have been one of introspection and change with a look to the future as part of the Moose Jaw MFRC Board’s succession planning process. Subsequently, as part of the modernization discussion, the board reviewed, discussed, and consulted with national and local stakeholders to best determine the future governance model for the Moose Jaw MFRC Inc.

After numerous engagements, research, and collaborative consultations, the board presented a governance motion to the military communities at Moose Jaw and Portage at the last AGM to either stay a Not-for-Profit Organization or convert to a Non-Public Funds entity. Using an online voting platform to ensure maximum inclusion and feedback, military members and their families had their voice heard to best determine their preference WRT the formal vote with majority support of the NPF option.

Therefore, effective 01 Apr 2026, the new governance entity, MFS Moose Jaw, under the purview of Military Family Services (MFS) will allow for resource consolidation at both the HR and operational levels in Moose Jaw and Portage, while providing greater synergies with both our key MFS and Wing funders and stakeholders.

Further, as the Future Aircrew Training (FAcT) program evolves at 15 Wing and Portage, the MFS Moose Jaw (including Portage) entity will better align the organization with DND stakeholders to create efficiencies and funding opportunities to better parallel the training program in such a way that site-specific military familial needs will be supported in an adaptive and fluid manner. Additional resources have been made available to support the transition, as well as the ongoing operational costs associated with the amendments to the governance structure, thus resulting in a seamless customer experience and continued service access.

Throughout the conversion process, the board and management remain committed to the same high level of professionalism, standard of care, as well as the delivery of unparalleled mandated and site-specific services to the 15 Wing Moose Jaw, Portage, and southern Saskatchewan military communities.
