    Vanessa Mc Alpine

    Military Sports Coordinator
Vanessa Mc Alpine holds a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and a college diploma in advertising management.

She joined the Personnel Support Programs team in August 2020 as a fitness instructor. Her role was to train candidates at the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School during their basic military qualification.

In 2022, Vanessa was deployed for six months to Latvia, where she trained our Canadian military members on mission. She developed her skills by organizing sporting events for military personnel from many NATO countries, such as a volleyball or ping-pong tournament, a fitness competition, and more.

Upon her return, she joined the military sports department to gain experience in event organization. She assisted with the sport coach course, became a sport coach, and contributed to the regional basketball championship and the national volleyball championship.

In June 2023, Vanessa became military sports coordinator just before a second deployment to Kuwait. She was part of the team responsible for organizing the first edition of the Coalition Friendship Games, an event that brought together six nations for a week of various sporting competitions. Serving as a key link between Canadian participants and the organizing team, this tour allowed her to gain invaluable experience in the conceptualization, planning, and execution of large-scale sporting events.

Vanessa has long played volleyball, football, and flag football. During her deployments, she notably took part in the Dancon March and the Army Run. Today, you will mostly see her training in running year-round.

“As a military sports coordinator, I want to give military members the opportunity to create memories through sport. Sport gives us a sense of community. It allows us to develop many personal skills, such as teamwork, communication, confidence, discipline, and leadership. Taking part in regional or national competitions clearly shows us that sport is important and gives us the chance to reconnect with people we never thought we would see again!”
