Beat the Base Triathlon

Canadian Forces Base Edmonton is holding a sprint and try-a-tri (super sprint) distance triathlon on May 11, 2024 with all proceeds being donated to the Soldier-on Program, a not-for-profit organization that supports serving and retired members to overcome mental health and physical illness or injury through sport and physical activity. The Beat-the-Base Triathlon will be closed course and open to military, veterans, and civilians over the age of 8. This event is meant to promote fitness and provide an opportunity for all experience levels to participate. As an early season triathlon, the weather can be a bit unpredictable with heat, cold, or somehow a combination of both with rain and/or snow so be prepared for the weather.

The race will commence at 12:30pm and last wave starting no later than 4:00 pm to allow the best weather the day has to offer. Waves will be 20 people each, seeded based on swim times.

Swim – (Sprint – 800 yards / Try-a-Tri – 400 yards)

The swim leg will be held in the base pool (25 yards) with the transition area complete with warming tents just to the North of the pool.

Bike – (Sprint – 20km / Try-a-Tri – 10km)

The on-base cycle will initially be focused on the (retired) runway, which at one time was built to accommodate B-52 bombers during the Second World War and later designated as an emergency space shuttle landing site by NASA. The cycle phase will then pass in front of the various units housed on the base who will all see deployments on various missions abroad over the next year.

Run – (Sprint – 5km / Try-a-Tri – 2.5km)

The run will then move onto the trail system north of the pool.
