Val usually volunteers one day a week doing administrative tasks. She also volunteers to help out at special events.
“I love it when I'm able to volunteer with the MFRC. It gives me a feeling of belonging to this big, wonderful family,” Val says “It also makes me feel closer to my son as I connect with other members of the military and their families.”
Both employees and the military community benefit from Val's contributions. She is a strong supporter of the military community and is a proud mother to a current service CAF member. She shares stories and empowers fellow military parents and encourages CAF members to stay connected with their families/parents.
“Val approaches living the unique military lifestyle from her role as a mother. Val has an enduring personality and is well-respected by our staff team at the MFRC. She is dedicated, passionate and playful volunteer,” says MFRC volunteer coordinator Jill Clarke. “Her long-standing volunteer contributions have left an impact with all those she's touched. Val's connection with the people and services at the MFRC plays an integral role in family support.”
Val encourages others to volunteer, after retiring from a 30-year career working with the RCMP she says that it keeps her mind sharp and also helps to ease the workload on those she supports. Val has become a valuable team-member and is well-respected and valued by everyone. In addition, Val likes to bake and is forever keeping all staff awaiting the delights of what she will bring into the office to share the next time she's in to volunteer.
“If you have time to spare, being able to volunteer and helping others is a wonderful thing to do,” Val says. Not only are you helping others, but it just gives you a feeling of fulfilment.”
