Isshack, the site supervisor, security, for the Department of National Defence office in Toronto, has been instrumental in helping recruit members for PSP Recreation Sports Challenges and Noon Hour Rec Sports Programs.
He is the first point of contact for most employees and is very persuasive in getting members to participate in the various sports programs.
“George is very good at recruiting,” says Marvin Guinasao, recreation and special event coordinator at PSP Garrison Toronto. “He does a great job of getting people to come and join our recreational sports and try different sports out. He’s helped our programs become more successful.”
Isshack considers himself a people person who enjoys talking to people, and helping his friends in PSP is just a bonus.
“There’s nothing better than seeing somebody play sports and being comfortable,” says Isshack. “Some people are shy, but when you put them on the floor as part as a team and they play sports, it builds morale and builds confidence and it’s just so great to see.”
The number of members participating in the various sports has been growing and Guinasao credits Isshack for the increase in participants.
“George has such a great personality and makes people feel so comfortable,” Guinasao says. “We get lots of new members that get posted in and out and he makes friends with them quickly and invites them to come out and try our programs.”
Whether it’s finding a goalie or a couple of extra players for a team, or setting up or tearing down equipment, Guinasao knows Isshack will always be willing to lend a hand.
