January 2025 - Maria Szilagyi

As a retired CAF member, Maria Szilagyi wanted to give back to the community that was there to support her. Maria started volunteering to support the CAF community in 2023 and then joined the Calgary MFRC as a volunteer at the beginning of December 2024, and since then, she has proven to be an invaluable asset to the organization. Her journey began with her immediate involvement in the annual Holiday Party and working diligently in the Hospitality Room during the event, which saw participation from over 300 community members. Her contribution was pivotal in ensuring the event’s success, and her warm and cheery demeanor was a perfect fit for greeting attendees, some of whom had to spend considerable time in line.

Maria demonstrates an exceptional work ethic and efficiency in managing tasks. Whether it is helping during staff meetings, covering the reception, or preparing for events, Maria's presence has been a constant source of support. Her willingness to take on any task and her dedication to completing it efficiently has made her an indispensable part of our team.

Maria's volunteer work has impacted hundreds of people in the community. Her role at the MFRC front desk, particularly when staff were occupied with workshops, ensured that the CAF community could still access tickets to special events and receive the needed support. Maria's ability to manage the front desk positively and efficiently has left a lasting impression on those she has interacted with.

Maria exemplifies what it means to be a great volunteer. Her upbeat attitude, willingness to chip in wherever needed, and strong work ethic set a high standard for others to follow. She is a role model for new volunteers, demonstrating the positive impact one can have through dedication and a cheerful demeanor.
